Move over, Handshake Speakeasy: There’s a new top bar in town.  

New York City’s Sip & Guzzle is officially the No.1 Bar in North America, according to a new list from the continent’s 50 Best Bars organization that was announced in Vancouver on Tuesday evening. The buzzy cocktail spot in Greenwich Village has ousted Handshake Speakeasy from that top perch on the ranking, where the Mexico City locale had sat for two years in a row.

In fact, three out of the five highest-ranked bars come from the Big Apple. Following behind Sip & Guzzle (which moved up from No. 5 on last year’s list) come Bar Snack at No. 3, as the East Village spot comes in hot for its first time on the list, and Schmuck at No. 4 (also making its debut on the ranking), which opened just around the corner in January 2025. Rounding out the top five are Bar Mauro, the best bar in Mexico in the country’s capital, at No. 2, and Tlecān, another Mexico City entrant, at No. 5.

Overall, New York and Mexico City dominated the list, with 13 and eight bars making an appearance, respectively. Other Empire State hot spots in the group include Superbueno (No. 9), Clemente Bar (No. 15), Double Chicken Please (No. 35), and Attaboy (No. 37) In Mexico’s capital, meanwhile, superb cocktails at bars such as Form + Matter (No. 13), Licorería Limantour (No. 20), and Kaito del Valle (No. 25)  notched them a spot on the ranking. As for Handshake Speakeasy, it fell down the list to settle in at No. 12. The title of the best bar in Canada, meanwhile, belongs to Vancouver’s the Keefer Bar (No. 7), and La Factoría (No. 26) in Puerto Rico is the best bar in the Caribbean.

“The bars on this year’s list are exemplary in their ability to push boundaries and influence hospitality not only in North America, but across the globe,” Emma Sleight, head of content for North America’s 50 Best Bars, said in a press statement. “From established leaders to exciting new entries, the bars featured continue to push the standard of what a world-class drinks experience can be with their talent, creativity, and resilience.”
