South Florida has become a magnet for some of the biggest names in soccer, and now Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos is the latest superstar to grab a piece of the action—two pieces, actually.

The former Real Madrid defender and Brazilian National Team icon recently acquired a pair of condos at Viceroy Residences Fort Lauderdale, according to the developer. The big buy comes as Carlos is working as an ambassador for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 

Carlos, universally seen as one of the best left-backs to ever play the game, said he fell in love with the project immediately—and with Fort Lauderdale itself, which is a city he’s been visiting for years. He’s also joining a growing roster of soccer royalty who have planted multimillion-dollar real estate roots in South Florida, including Lionel Messiand David Beckham.

“Fort Lauderdale is a place I’ve been coming to for years, and I’ve always felt a strong connection to this city,” Carlos said in a statement. “When I saw Viceroy Residences Fort Lauderdale, I was drawn to the project right away. The design, energy and lifestyle all felt special. I knew immediately it would be the perfect fit for the way I want to experience South Florida.”

The New York Post reported that Carlos spent around $5 million on the two condos, and he plans to help design the interiors both. One of the residences is a two-bedroom unit with about 1,350 square feet, while the other is a bit bigger, with three bedrooms in roughly 1,850 square feet. Both high-floor homes have private terraces and panoramic views that sweep across Fort Lauderdale, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean.

These buys put another major celebrity name on the roster for Viceroy Residences Fort Lauderdale, which is a 45-story tower underdevelopment by Naftali Group. When completed, the project will have 251 condos ranging from one to four bedrooms, with interior design handled by the folks at Arquitectonica and Rockwell Group.

The building’s perks are all about the high-end resort lifestyle that buyers have come to expect from luxury branded buildings these days. Residents get access to a spa, a pool deck, a wine and sound bar, concierge services, a karaoke room, a VR simulator room, and beach club privileges. On top of that, the building will feature a massive 15,000-square-foot restaurant and private members club operated by The h.wood Group—the hospitality crew behind famous celebrity hangouts like Delilah and The Nice Guy.

Danielle Naftali, the executive vice president of marketing, sales, and design at Naftali Group, reinforced the notion that today’s buyers are looking for a lot more than just a place to sleep.
