Inside a $15M Long Island Estate Built by the Cofounder of Snapple

The longtime Long Island home of Hyman Golden, cofounder of Snapple, has remained in the Golden family for more than three decades. Known locally as the Snapple House, the waterfront estate sits in the affluent suburban village of Hewlett Bay Park.

Golden and his wife, Mitzi, built the residence in the 1990s, shortly after selling the beverage company to Quaker Oats for $1.7 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal. The 11,000-square-foot home occupies a prominent position along Macy Channel, standing on a double lot of about two acres, with 240 feet of waterfront frontage.

“This is one of the most special waterfront properties on the South Shore,” says listing agent Shawn Elliott of Nest Seekers International, who holds the $15 million listing. “You don’t see homes of this caliber on Macy Channel come to market, let alone ones with this kind of story behind them.”

Designed by architect Norman Wax and built by Qualico Contracting, the house was positioned at a 45-degree angle to maximize water views from nearly every room. “The architecture alone sets this apart,” adds co-listing agent Zach Elliott. “That kind of intentional design is what makes this property impossible to replicate.”

A dedicated entertaining wing includes a bar and temperature-controlled cellar—famously stocked not with wine but with bottles of Snapple, peach flavor being among the favorites. In all, there are five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The primary suite faces the harbor and includes dual walk-in closets and a spa-style bath with a soaking tub and sauna. An elevator connects all three levels of the home.

The grounds are equally considered, with manicured lawns, formal gardens, and a deep-water dock. A separate cabana functions as a self-contained retreat, complete with a kitchen, changing rooms, and a sauna.

The property has hosted major family events over the years, including a 300-person birthday celebration. “This home has always been the heart of our family,” says Richard Golden, a member of the Golden family who also shares the listing. “It’s grand and inviting, with timeless architecture, waterfront access, and a backyard designed for both intimate moments and large gatherings.”

The Snapple House is the most expensive home currently on the market in the Hewlett area, according to Elliott, who told the outlet that a sale anywhere near the asking price would set a new local record, surpassing the current $9.5 million benchmark.
