Inside a $12.7 Million Palm Desert Mansion by Architect Guy Dreier

Late Swiss architect Eduard Dreier designed hundreds of homes across the U.S. throughout his 50-year career, incorporating his distinct modernist aesthetic with a Bauhaus spin. His son, Guy, followed in his footsteps, creating sculptural abodes from Boca Raton to Vail over the past 35 years. One standout is a hillside mansion he built in Palm Desert’s exclusive Big Horn Golf Club in 2008.

Set on 1.72 rugged acres, the striking abode combines a dramatic curved roof with glass walls and swathes of Jerusalem Stone. The main residence and detached casita together offer up four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and one half bath in just over 9,250 square feet of stylish living space. The grounds are equally impressive, with an infinity-edge pool, spa, and tiered waterfalls.

The Summit Cove pad was listed for $13.2 million in February 2022, property records show. It has been on and off the market since, with slight price fluctuations: it was listed for $12.5 million in December 2024, then relisted in February of this year for $12.65 million. Jacquie Burns of Bighorn Properties, the golf club’s exclusive on-site brokerage, holds the listing.

A hand-laid brick driveway leads up to a gated courtyard surrounded by sun-kissed mountains and tree-lined valleys. An oversized pivot door leads to the sprawling, open-plan living quarters, where curved, floor-to-ceiling windows blur the divide between the indoor and outdoor world. A custom dual-sided fireplace anchors the main living area, which is outfitted with lounge and dining spaces, a concealed pop-up television, and a wet bar. The chef’s kitchen nearby features a floating glass table off the kitchen island, as well as professional appliances, a walk-in pantry, and a wine cooler.

Walls of pocketing glass in the living room and kitchen slide open to the rear, providing direct access to the covered patio, an outdoor grill, and the pool and spa. Back inside, the primary suite serves as a private retreat with a fireplace, two bathrooms, built-ins, and expansive windows.

Two other bedrooms with en suites, walk-ins, and private patios are spread across the house, along with a study with a fireplace and bathroom. The detached casita, meanwhile, comprises a seating area, one bed, and two baths. To top it off, the hillside estate comes with custom furniture and a three-car garage.
