One of America’s biggest car buffs is saying goodbye to a stunning supercar.

A 1972 DeTomaso Pantera owned by Ford CEO Jim Farley is currently up for grabs on Bring a Trailer. And thanks to the executive’s automotive connections, the gorgeous wedge-shaped speed machine is in impeccable shape.

The Pantera’s Ford roots go back even further than Farley, though. Every example of the supercar, which was the brainchild of Argentine industrialist Alejandro DeTomaso, featured a Ford powertrain from the time of its launch in 1971 until production ceased in 1992. Ford even sold the car in the U.S. through its Lincoln-Mercury dealerships for the first five years it was on the market, during which time it sold 5,500 of the 7,260 Panteras ever sold.

This example up for auction—chassis no. THPNMD0401—was delivered brand-new to Ford Aerospace, a defunct defense company owned by the automaker, the same year that it was built. It would spend the next two years in the company pool before being sold into private ownership. The vehicle then bounced around for the next few decades, including an 18-year stint on display at the Yankee Candle Car Museum in Massachusetts, before it was purchased by Farley, via Bring a Trailer, in June 2024.

Farley’s coupe is finished in a bright coat of yellow, a repainted hue broken up only by the chrome trim and a set of 15-inch bronze Campagnolo magnesium wheels. The interior, meanwhile, is covered in black vinyl and features houndstooth-pattern cloth seat inserts. The car is powered, like most early Panteras, by a naturally aspirated 5.8-liter Cleveland V-8. The over-bored mill comes mated to a five-speed ZF manual transaxle and made 325 hp and 344 ft lbs of torque brand new. The car, which shows 34,000 miles on the odometer, has been well cared for over the years—the engine and gearbox were removed and serviced in January of this year—and comes with all service records, spare and removed parts, and a clean Michigan title.

Intrigued? The auction for Farley’s Pantera runs through Thursday, April 16. As of press time, bidding had reached $130,000, which is $9,000 more than the executive paid for the car back in 2024.
