Diane Keaton was a woman of great taste. The Oscar-winning actor, who died at age 79 last October, had a sharp, discerning eye that was evident in everything she worked on, from films and books to interiors and art. Her signature, refined style is also reflected in the things she collected—some of which will go under the gavel this summer.
Bonhams is auctioning a curated selection of Keaton’s fine art, furniture, clothing, and other personal objects in a series of four sales across New York and Los Angeles this June. The collection, offered in partnership with the Fine Art Group, illustrates her powerful creative vision that extended beyond film and into design, fashion, and literature.
“Few individuals possess the rare ability to move between disciplines while maintaining a singular and unmistakable point of view,” Dorrie Hall, Keaton’s sister, said in a statement. “My sister, Diane, was one such person. To speak of her is to speak of instinct, an unerring visual and creative intuition that guided her across decades of artistic exploration.”

The first live sale, taking place on June 8 in New York, includes 50 lots ranging from fashion to art. On the style front, highlights include signature accessories such as her Ralph Lauren polka dot tie (estimate: $100–$200) and classic black bowler hat ($400–$600), as well as memorable outfits like the Ralph Lauren houndstooth ensemble she wore to the 2020 Academy Awards ($2,000–$3,000). As for art, several American modern and contemporary pieces are on offer, including David Wojnarowicz’s Buffalos ($25,000–$35,000). Another standout is the original untitled script ($2,000–$3,000) for Annie Hall, the 1977 film for which she earned her first Academy Award.
Next up, the aptly named Tailored & Timeless sale, running online from May 31 to June 9, will offer up more from Keaton’s iconic wardrobe. The tightly edited selection comprises over 200 pieces of clothing, jewelry, hats, and accessories from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Thom Browne, and Comme des Garçons.

The next online sale, titled At Home with Diane, offers up furniture and other decorative objects from the actor’s various residences, including her Sullivan Canyon home. Running from June 1 to 10, the auction will feature over 150 lots, spanning Monterey and Industrial furniture, Hillside pottery, and Diné (Navajo) pictorial weavings.

The fourth and final sale includes literature, memorabilia, and personal ephemera. Taking place online from June 1 to 11, the Chapters of an Edited Life auction comprises over 150 lots, offering up books from Keaton’s library, her own photographs and collages, scripts from movies like Father of the Bride and The Godfather, plus handwritten letters from other Hollywood greats.
“It is a privilege to introduce this collection and Diane’s personal world to you, which reflects not only a lifetime of looking, but a lifetime of truly seeing,” adds Hall.
In the lead-up to the sales, select highlights from the collection will be displayed in two public exhibitions at Bonhams in L.A. and N.Y.C. For more information, visit the Bonhams website.
