BMW just gave us a much better idea of what we can expect from Alpina.

The German luxury marque unveiled a new concept called the Vision BMW Alpina on Friday at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. The automaker says the exquisite vehicle is just a “one-of-one design study,” but it does offer up a hint of what to expect from its most exclusive brand going forward.

The Vision BMW Alpina arrives five months after the automaker took over full control of its most beloved tuner. Alpina began working on Bimmers in 1965, but it wasn’t until the late 1970s that it began building full vehicles based on the marque’s models. These cars—which included the legendary B6 3.5, B7 S Turbo, and B10 BiTurbo—were so good that BMW eventually started servicing and selling them itself. In 2022, the automaker decided it was time to take the relationship to the next level and acquired the tuner with the intention of spinning it off as a standalone brand closer to corporate sibling Rolls-Royce than the rest of its lineup.

The concept, which debuts a little over two months after the last of the old Alpinas, offers up a glimpse of what the newly established BMW Alpina’s vehicles will look like. It is a sleek grand tourer with a shark nose, giant illuminated kidney grilles, and defined lines. It has the commanding proportions—it measures 204.7 inches in length—one expects from a luxury vehicle, but it still looks fast thanks to its coupe-style roof and low-slung stance. No current BMW model is mentioned as a basis for the vehicle, though the press material does refer to the original B7 coupe, which marked the first time the Alpina philosophy was applied to a luxury model. Several of the tuner’s hallmarks are present, including “Alpina” lettering, modernized Deco lines along the side of the vehicle, a quad-pipe exhaust, and 20-spoke wheels.

The spacious interior looks just as futuristic as that of BMW’s upcoming second wave of “Neue Klasse” vehicles, including the refreshed 7 Series. The front features the automaker’s new Panoramic iDrive display, which was designed to give drivers all the info they need without having to take their eyes off the road, and a dedicated passenger screen. The cabin features plenty of restrained-but-premium amenities, including full-grain leather with stitching inspired by the Deco lines, clear-cut crystal physical controls, and a rear seat console with self-deploying crystal glasses.

BMW’s announcement is short on technical details, which is to be expected of a concept vehicle. The automaker does say the GT is powered by a traditional V-8 and not an all-electric powertrain. It is said to have been tuned to produce the “rich and deep” sounds of an old-school Alpina. The press release does stress that “a comfortable driver is a faster driver,” so a smooth ride should be expected.

“Alpina has always represented a very specific idea of performance and refinement—where speed and comfort are complementary ambitions,” Adrian van Hooydonk, the head of BMW Group Design, said in a statement. “Our role as the new custodians of this brand is to preserve this distinctiveness and shape it for a contemporary context.”

In recent years, BMW has shown a willingness to put its Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este concepts, like the Skytop roadster and Speedtop shooting brake, into production, but there appear to be no plans to do the same with the Vision BMW Alpina as of now. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised to see several elements of the vehicle, including its kidney grilles and plush cabin features, make it into one of the brand’s future models.
