There are celebrity-backed spirits, and then there are celebrity-backed spirits. For example, there’s an Idaho vodka called Born and Bred that’s affiliated with Channing Tatum; and then there’s Beyonce‘s SirDavis American Whisky. It’s hard to get any bigger than that, really, no disrespect to Mr. Tatum. The brand just announced that it was launching a new, high-end cocktail kit for you to make a drink called SirDavis Whisky Lemonade all summer long, and we have the details to share.
Beyonce launched SirDavis American Whisky almost two years ago in the summer of 2024. As we reported at the time, the project was named after her grandfather, Davis Hogue, who was said to be a moonshiner in the South during Prohibition. The whisky (they spell it without the “e” like the Scots, which a few other American whiskey brands do as well) was produced in partnership with Glenmorangie and Ardbeg master distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden and global head of advocacy and blender Cameron George.
While Beyonce has been known to enjoy a dram of high-end Japanese whisky, SirDavis is an American rye whiskey made from a mashbill of 51 percent rye and 49 percent malted barley at MGP in Indiana. That’s an unusual mashbill, and one that is very different from the distillery’s typical 95/5 recipe. According to George, this is a nod to pre-Prohibition Monongahela rye, a style of whiskey made in Pennsylvania that usually had no corn in the mashbill. “This is kind of a throwback to an old-world style of rye, but through a contemporary lens,” he told Robb Report at the time of the launch. After aging in new charred oak barrels, the whisky was finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks (there is no age statement) and bottled at 88 proof without chill filtration.
As mentioned before, the new cocktail kit, which is being released via the website Cocktail Courier, has all the ingredients for you to make a SirDavis Whisky Lemonade at home (a reference to her 2016 album). It includes the following ingredients: one SirDavis American Whisky 375-ml bottle, one organic lemonade 16-oz bottle, one honey syrup 2-oz bottle, one dehydrated lemon wheels bag, one SirDavis medallion horse pin, one note from SirDavis, and one recipe card with instructions on how to make the drink.
Each SirDavis Whisky Lemonade cocktail kit costs $95, and is available starting today to order from Cocktail Courier. You can also order a full size bottle of SirDavis from websites like ReserveBar now.
