There’s a small group of Brooklyn buildings that celebrities seem to gravitate toward, and the Standish is one of them. The converted Beaux-Arts hotel overlooking the Brooklyn Heights Promenade has become one of the borough’s preferred A-list addresses, with Matt Damon purchasing the triplex penthouse for a record-setting $16.7 million in 2018 and Emily Blunt and John Krasinski buying a full-floor apartment the following year for $11 million.
The building’s backstory runs almost as deep as its celebrity roster. Designed by architect Frank S. Lowe and completed in 1903, the 12-story structure originally opened as the Standish Arms hotel before later being converted into condominiums. The building’s moniker has also appeared in pop culture over the years: its name was famously used as Clark Kent’s apartment building in the Superman comics, while playwright Arthur Miller referenced the Standish in Death of a Salesman as the hotel where Willy Loman carries on his affair.

Now another apartment there has hit the market, this time a duplex. The place spans roughly 1,786 square feet across two levels. The main floor sports soaring 12-foot ceilings, huge arched windows, herringbone floors, crown moldings, and coffered ceilings. Designer Patrick Mele handled the interiors, which lean moodier and more layered, with darker paint colors, wallpaper, brass accents, and a mix of old and new finishes.
On the lower level, a 30-foot-long great room stretches across the front of the apartment, overlooking the Columbia Heights neighborhood and offering ample space for separate living and dining areas. Nearby, the kitchen is outfitted with Carrara marble countertops, Bertazzoni and Bosch appliances, custom cabinetry, and a mirrored backsplash.

Both en suite bedrooms are upstairs, with the primary suite sporting bay windows facing the street and custom closets. There’s also a private storage unit included with the apartment, plus west-facing exposures that pull in strong afternoon light throughout the day.
The Standish has just 28 residences and comes with a slate of full-service perks—24-hour doorman, concierge, fitness studio, and rooftop terrace—along with a premium location, which explains why so many stars have landed there. The apartment is listed for roughly $4 million with Deb Rieders and her team at Corcoran.
