Westfalia’s Latest Camper Van Was Designed for Couples

The name of Westfalia’s latest model makes clear exactly who it’s aimed at.

The German company’s American subsidiary has just unveiled the Wave for 2, a camper van designed with couples in mind. The new vehicle comes with everything a couple needs to live out their #Vanlife dreams.

The Wave for 2, which made its debut at this year’s Florida RV Supershow, may be Westfalia America’s most accessible model, but don’t mistake it for a dinky van short on capability. Like the brand’s other U.S. models, the Wave Pop-Top and Wave Skylight, it’s built on an extended Ram Promaster 3500 chassis and measures 20.75 feet bumper-to-bumper and 9.5 feet tall. It’s powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 connected to a nine-speed automatic that makes 276 hp and 250 ft lbs of torque.

What separates the company’s first dedicated two-person model from the rest of its lineup is its cabin layout. Because it was designed for a couple, the van comes equipped with just a driver and passenger seat. Some may see the lack of a second row as a drawback, but it’s allowed Westfalia to better maximize the available interior space. Replacing the second set of seats is a pull-out table and a 91-liter fridge topped with a shelving unit. Moving the latter feature up there’s more room in the galley—meaning there’s a cooktop and a full-size sink—a luxury you won’t find in many camper vans this size.

Other interior features include a bathroom with a toilet and shower, as well as a rear sleeping area that features a Murphy bed that can be stowed away during the day for added versatility. There’s also a hidden step to make getting into bed easier at the end of each day. The front seats can also be converted into an additional sleeping area for one, bumping sleeping capacity to three people. Rounding things out is a roof-mounted skylight, 30 cubic feet of storage space, and a climate control system with a Bluetooth-compatible Firefly panel.
