Tony Stark’s One-Off Acura NSX Roadster Is Heading to Auction

Tony Stark knows a thing or two about cool toys, and now one of his favorites is about to go up for grabs.

It may not be an Iron Man suit, but the one-off Acura NSX roadster that Robert Downey Jr. drove in The Avengers (and to the real-world premiere) will soon hit the open market. Honda, Acura’s parent company, has revealed that the actual car used during the filming of the hit Marvel film will be auctioned off by Cars & Bids later this year.

Any enthusiast knows that the NSX is a special car—that’s why two different companies are currently working on restomods based on it—but Stark’s example is like no other. The car from The Avengers has a look inspired by the second-generation NSX concept that was first shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2012, but is built on the bones of an early first-generation model.

The NSX still looks exactly as it did on the set of the 2012 box office smash. Its hand-crafted body, which was designed by a team led by Acura creative director Dave Marek, is finished in a rich hue similar to that of red wine and its interior, which features two aftermarket seats equipped with racing harnesses, is covered in black leather. It even still wears the “Stark 33” license plate from the film.

Stark’s NSX was built on a 1991 example with 252,000 miles on the odometer. That’s a sizeable amount, of course, but we have a feeling the car has been in kept in tip-top shape since the end of filming.

It’s unclear when exactly the one-of-a-kind supercar will go up for bid, but Honda says when it does it, will be through Cars & Bids. The automaker also announced that proceeds from the sale will benefit a charity of the winning bidder’s choice. Honda also plans to make an additional contribution to the Sundance Institute. The vehicle will be on display at the foundation’s annual film festival in Park City, Utah, this week.

The price figures to be steep, too. We’ve recently seen the NSX start to command up to seven figures, including the $1.06 million paid for a 2003 NSX-R last year, so that would certainly seem to be in play here.
