Say Unveils a New 42-Foot Carbon-Fiber Yacht With a Wave-Cutting Bow

Say’s latest model is exactly what it says.

Christened the Say 42 Sport, the new 42-footer is a sporty riff on the first Say 42 that debuted in 2020. As with the original oceangoing hotrod, the latest iteration combines lightweight carbon fiber and huge amounts of horsepower to create a truly thrilling cruising experience on the seas.

Built entirely from lightweight carbon fiber, the Sport features Say’s signature “wave-cutter” bow and patented Petestep hull technology to ensure a smooth ride, greater efficiency, and a blistering top speed of 50 knots (58 mph).

As with its predecessor, the Sport can be equipped with either two Volvo Penta D4 Diesel engines (640 hp) or two V8s (860 hp). It is also fitted with a Seakeeper 2 that increases stability and DuoProp drives that turn all that grunt into precise acceleration. The fully integrated digital cockpit brings all controls to your fingertips, while the three shock-absorbing seats in the pilot area keep you and your fellow seafarers comfy.

The major difference between the two models is that the Sport showcases a new layout with more deck space and greater flow from bow to stern. The adaptable dining and lounging areas offer enough room for up to 12 seafarers. A generous dining area and bar sit at the center, inviting sun pads lie forward and aft, and a spacious swim platform is located at the stern. To top it off, literally, the expanded hardtop provides shelter from the elements, increasing the overall usability.

“With the Say 42 Sport, our focus was on refinement rather than reinvention,” Karl Wagner, Say’s chief technology officer, said in a statement. “It is a yacht designed for everyday enjoyment, where performance, comfort, and design are in constant dialogue.”

Say is part of a new wave of yacht builders making carbon fiber the main attraction in their builds. The material has traditionally been used for aesthetic details, but is becoming a go-to for reducing weight, creating stiffness, and forming unconventional shapes. The Say 42 Sport is completely carbon, resulting in a dry weight of 4.5 tons (including the Seakeeper), a draft of just under 3 feet, and a range of 300 nautical miles.

That strategy appears to be working, too: Say says it has enjoyed “a year of strong growth” and continued expansion across key European markets. It is also set to unveil a new Say 32 later this year. Stay tuned.
