Porsche recently hosted a curated weekend in and around the Big Apple to honor the art, design, and engineering behind its Macan Electric. At the Surrey Hotel, just steps from Central Park, internationally renowned artist Tom Fruin unveiled a new sculptural installation that is inspired by, and sited next to, the Porsche Macan Electric. Composed of metal and stained glass, Fruin’s mosaic masterpiece takes its cues from the Macan’s configurator, a digital tool that allows buyers to pick and choose the interior and exterior colors of their vehicle to honor their own unique sense of style and creativity. The opportunities for self-expression are many.
Inside the car’s cabin, the customization options continue. The seating, headrests, console configuration, and even the air vents are open to an owner’s interpretation. The Macan Electric is no longer just a car; it’s a blank canvas where drivers can express themselves.

Fruin tells Robb Report’s automotive editor Viju Mathew that his art is inspired by his surroundings. “When I first moved to New York, I was trying to discover both this place and myself,” he says. “I started just picking up things and it became almost a diary of my experiences. I’m looking for something genuine and real and trying to distill that into a sculpture.” Fruin’s passion to make sense of his surroundings and to connect with them is evident in this sculpture where glass and light play in concert with each other. “I like to change your experience of the outdoor world,” Fruin says. “Hopefully [my art] changes your worldview for a second.”
Porsche doesn’t just take inspiration from the art world, its vehicles are influenced by masterful modernist architecture too. The Macan Electric embodies both: sculptural beauty and top-notch engineering. Under the car’s sleek exterior lives the new Premium Platform Electric, which is designed with an 800‑volt high‑voltage system for both faster charging (power up in less than 30 minutes) and faster acceleration (up to 630 hp and a 0–60 mph sprint of just 3.1 seconds).

Since the Macan Electric is a celebration of design and engineering, Philip Johnson’s world-famous Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, was another fitting destination for Porsche’s art-and-design-inspired weekend. Johnson’s modernist masterpiece is celebrated for its stunning stainless-steel frame and transparent glass that showcases its structure while providing uninterrupted views of the bucolic surroundings.
The Glass House is a masterwork of precision, structure, architecture, and design. It is a true original. “The Porsche Macan Electric Vehicle feels the same,” says Mathew, “engineered with clarity, built with precision, and always connected to what’s around you.”

After a couple of days of artistic exploration and cruising through the creative landscape with Porsche, it’s clear how art and design can inspire. As Mathews explains, “Art reshapes the way we look at the world.” And the Porsche Macan Electric is no exception. Not only is it a state-of-the-art vehicle, but it’s also a way to experience the world and reconnect with the beauty of your surroundings. It is true art in motion.
