Here’s one auction that the more discerning Raging Bull collectors out there will want to keep an eye on.
A stunning example of the 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 is currently up for bid on Bring a Trailer. The supercar was the marque’s follow-up to the legendary Countach and can be viewed as the turning point at which it started to become the company it is today.
The Diablo was given a near impossible task when it debuted in 1990: succeeding the model that made Lamborghini a household name. But the wedge-shaped supercar was more than up for the task. Its predecessor may be one of the more visually striking vehicles ever released, but it’s also very much of its time. The Diablo’s slick, clean-lined design, on the other hand, wouldn’t look out of place in the brand’s current lineup. There is so much more to the vehicle than its distinctive look, though. The V-12’s Vicious Traction variant, which launched in 1993, was also the first Lamborghini car to feature an all-wheel-drive system.

The Diablo currently up for grabs is from the car’s final year of production. As such, it featured a subtly revised design that includes a new front fascia with fixed headlights instead of the pop-up units found on earlier models and 18-inch wheels. This Diablo is finished in a rich coat of Verde Hydra, a color the listing says was used only once during the 11 years the vehicle was in production, and a two-person cabin wrapped in beige leather with green contrast piping. Other interior features include automatic climate control, a CD changer, and a gated shifter.
The first Diablos had a 5.7-liter V-12, but the VT 6.0, which was released after Lamborghini was acquired by Audi, has a 6.0-liter mill. The engine pumps out 542 hp and 457 ft lbs of torque, which is routed to all four wheels by a five-speed manual gearbox. The later VT models feature front and rear limited-slip differentials, along with a computer-modulated system that sends just 25 percent of the torque to the front wheels.
