As a kid, David Sach—who’s been the CFO of several publicly listed companies—loved to golf. He even served as the captain of his high school team. He put aside the sport to prioritize his career and his family, but when he and his wife, Kelly, decided to build a home, golf ended up being a big part of their chosen location: a prime oceanfront plot on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island, overlooking the 14th hole of the picturesque Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Course. Even Kelly got interested in the game.

The 8,000-square-foot property was built to the couple’s specifications with the help of architect Zach Carney. Having lived in London and Prague for about 30 years, the Sachs prioritized a contemporary European style, going so far as to bring many of the materials and finishes from across the pond, too. The Sachs now have their Kiawah abode on the market for $18.5 million with Doug Lee of Kiawah Island Real Estate. 

A three-story foyer with a curving staircase welcomes you upon entering the home. While the design here is emphatically traditional, a dose of modern whimsy comes through with a dangling, multi-floor chandelier loosely inspired by jellyfish. Facing the ocean is the combined living and dining room, where a stately granite fireplace sits between cozy wood-paneled window seats. Adjacent, you’ll find the powder-blue kitchen, outfitted with high-end appliances and a striking blue porcelain backsplash. Nearby, there’s both a breakfast room and a teak wine cellar.

Six of the home’s seven bedrooms have ocean views, and five include direct access to decks. The primary suite takes up an entire wing of the second floor, encompassing a bedroom and bathroom separated by a see-through fireplace, a private balcony, and a dressing room that leads to a personal laundry and bathroom. Elsewhere, the children’s bunkroom pairs two built-in bunks with two captain’s beds tucked in their own alcoves.

The back of the home is lined with an Ipe wood deck, where a heated saltwater pool and spa look out toward the Atlantic over the manicured greens of the golf course, and two outdoor showers are for rinsing off sand. To one side of the pool, there’s a covered summer kitchen with space for outdoor dining. On the other is a lounge area with a fireplace that can be either gas or wood-burning. To top it all off, the property comes with a Kiawah Island Club Golf Membership that includes access to the greens, along with a whole suite of additional amenities.
