Why settle for one of the rarest Mercedes-Benzes all time when you can just buy six of them?
A lovingly assembled collection of six of the greatest vehicles to wear the three-pointed star will go up for grabs at RM Sotheby’s upcoming Paris auction early next year. If you’re a fan of German sports cars since the post-war era—and aren’t put off by some sky-high pre-sale estimates—there’s guaranteed to be something among the selection that will catch your eye.
The sextet, which is referred to as “The Silver Star Collection,” was compiled by a single collector. The auction house hasn’t revealed any information about the person who brought the dazzling assortment of Mercs together, though it is clear they have exquisite taste in automobiles. These aren’t just some of the greatest models from the automaker’s history, they’re among the most desired examples of each individual car.

The highlight of the collection, without a doubt, is a pair of 300 SL models, one from the very beginning of production and the other from the end. The first is a 1954 300 SL Gullwing finished in White Grey over a beige-green checkered interior. It’s expected to command between $1.45 million and $2.05 million. The second is a 1962 300 SL roadster finished in Fire Engine Red over a cream leather interior. It should sell for between $1.4 million and $1.75 million. The coupe is one of the first 167 examples to leave the factory, while the convertible is one of the final 182 examples.
A little less spectacular, but still quite glamorous, is a 1969 280 SL “Pagoda.” The timeless open-top two-seater is finished in factory-correct Grey Blue Metallic and features its numbers-matching 2.8-liter straight-six. It’s likely to cost between $140,000 a nd $165,000 to take it home.

The unnamed collector’s tastes aren’t stuck in the past, though. There’s also a trio of modern Mercedes speed machines. Chief among them is a Crystal Laurit Silver 2010 SLR McLaren Roadster. The one-of-520 supercar is estimated to go for between $385,000 and $500,000. There are also a pair of 2013 AMG SLS models. The Iridium Silver coupe could command between $245,000 and $305,000, and the Obsidian Black roadster between $210,000 and $270,000.
All six cars will hit the block as part of RM Sotheby’s annual Paris sale. The auction will be held at the Salles du Carrousel in the Louvre Palace on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
