After earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1929, Atlanta-born Woolf relocated to Hollywood with hopes of pursuing a career as an actor. While that didn’t pan out, he went on to meet interior designer Robert Koch, and together they crafted homes for clients ranging from Cary Grant to Judy Garland in the glamorous Hollywood Regency style, an elegant and sometimes theatrical mix of various architectural styles. The pair also notably remodeled Craig Ellwood’s 1950s Case Study House No. 17 in Beverly Hills.
