Your bed can now look as sharp as your favorite suit.
Savoir, the historic British brand that began handcrafting bespoke beds for the Savoy hotel in 1905, has teamed up with British Ghanaian fashion designer Ozwald Boateng to create a sculptural bed with a sartorial elegance.
Boateng began tailoring at 16 and quickly rose to fame with immaculately cut suits in bright hues and bold fabrics. He opened his headquarters on Savile Row in 2002 and remains one of the few people of color with a firm on the prestigious London street. Interested in applying his distinctive design language to a new category, Boateng began exploring the world of interiors. Savoir won him over with its artisanal approach.

The Authenticity requires over 200 hours of work to build.

“What drew me in was the level of craftsmanship,” Boateng said in a statement. “I had never fully understood what goes into a handmade bed, the precision of the springs, the technical expertise, the time. Once you see it firsthand, your appreciation changes entirely.”
Boateng immersed himself in Savoir’s London Bedworks, learning the ins and outs of the meticulous production process. Each bed is made entirely by hand by a single artisan and signed upon completion like a work of art—much like a suit on the Row. Each bed can also have a distinct identity, as with clothing.

The headboard is upholstered in a bespoke woven leather developed with Alma.

“I approached this the way I approach a collection,” he adds. “The bed had to have its own architecture, its own point of view.”
Boateng’s aptly named Authenticity bed features a shaped headboard framed in handcrafted solid oak and upholstered in a bespoke woven leather developed with Alma. The design also nods to traditional Kente cloth, a sacred Ghanaian textile and a recurring motif in Boateng’s creations. “Kente has always been central to my work; it carries history, identity, meaning,” he explains. “Bringing it into a piece of furniture, something you live with intimately, felt like a natural progression.”

Additional details include an upholstered base in Whistler Leather’s embossed “Tangier Onyx” leather, a solid oak trim that has been stained black, and a reverse headboard finished in a striking green. “Every detail, down to the lining at the back of the headboard, has been considered with intention,” adds Boateng. “It’s Savile Row, reframed.”
Made to order, the Authenticity requires over 200 hours of work to come to fruition, with a lead time of approximately 16 to 18 weeks. The bed frame and headboard are paired with a No. 2 mattress, an extended No. 2 box-spring base, and a horsetail-and-wool topper. The Authenticity will be showcased at Savoir’s Mayfair flagship from May 16. Price is upon request.
