Forget an Irish goodbye, and say hello to an entire village in County Kildare.
The Village at Lyons, just a 30-minute drive from Dublin, is a historic private estate spanning a whopping 20 acres. The compound sits beside Lyons Hill, an early medieval royal site where the kings of Leinster resided starting around 760 A.D. In the 1820s, the land was turned into a village, where a relative of the Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton ran a flour mill. Fast-forward to the 1990s, and Ryanair founder Tony Ryan restored the village, preserving its historical charm while making it something of a modern-day town. The singular spread is now on the market for $23 million, with David Byrne at Lisney Sotheby’s International Realty holding the listing.

The restored cottages have retained their antique details, like intricate ceilings and fireplaces.

With 47 bedrooms spread among several rose-covered cottages, the estate probably offers more space than one family needs, but it could serve as a private multi-generational compound if you so desire. Currently outfitted with a spa and multiple dining venues, the property could also become a resort or a wellness retreat, if you feel like turning it into a commercial venture.
A gated tree-lined street leads you into the acreage, where many of the brick buildings are brightened up with mint-green trim and window treatments, adding a sense of whimsy to the structures. Inside, antique touches have been preserved, and the stately rooms feature intricately detailed ceilings and fireplaces. Cottagecore-chic wallpaper wraps around some of the bathrooms, while kitchens and the like have been modernized for today’s needs.

Modern additions include an outdoor spa with soaking tubs and a shower.

The grounds are sprinkled with lush gardens, orchards, lakes, and water features. A life-size chess set sits outside one of the buildings, tapping into the Alice in Wonderland vibe of the place. But there are also more contemporary additions, like a wood-framed outdoor lounge that has more of a Zen feel. Nearby, there’s a full spa setup, with outdoor soaking tubs and a shower. A hot tub, a yoga space, and a home theater are just a few of the more modern amenities you have access to, as well.

The Westerly Estate: A Tuscan Villa in Paradise

$52,500,000 USD
While the Village at Lyons is a sprawling offering, Ireland’s countryside has plenty of properties set in wide open spaces. An 18th-century castle on 56 acres, long owned by the Disney family, hit the market last year for $8.5 million. And around the same time, an 80-acre spread with a secret tunnel listed for $10.9 million.
