Don Julio Unveils Its Limited-Edition 1942 FIFA World Cup 2026 Bottle

There are a lot of special-edition bottles that come out every year, and most of them change up the packaging but not the actual liquid inside. Therefore, most of these releases are not necessarily that interesting. There are some exceptions, however, especially when it comes to the World Cup, as the global soccer tournament’s legions of rabid fans count down the days till the action begins on June 11 in 16 cities around the world. The most prominent example of this cross-brand promotion arrives courtesy of Don Julio, which is releasing its 942 FIFA World Cup 2026 Edition bottle next month, and we have the details to share.

This release comes a year after Diageo, the parent company of Don Julio as well as many other tequila and whisky brands and distilleries, announced that it had signed on as the “official spirits supporter” for FIFA World Cup 2026 in North, Central, and South America. That means that brands like Casamigos, Buchanan’s, Johnnie Walker, and Smirnoff will also see activations and special editions of some sort. “Football is the world’s biggest sport, and with this tournament set to be the biggest in its history, we see this as a unique opportunity to celebrate with fans in new and meaningful ways,” said Diageo’s chief marketing officer, Cristina Diezhandino, at the time.

As mentioned before, this new bottle will contain the same Don Julio 1942 as you’ll find in the regular version, an añejo that’s aged in American oak for about two and a half years and is a high-end bottle service fixture at many clubs. But this bottle is gold instead of amber, it has a malachite closure, and it comes inside a green box with FIFA branding. In addition to the special packaging, Don Julio collaborated with former footballers Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid) and Thierry Henry (Arsenal) on a short film that you can watch on YouTube.

Buchanan’s is another Diageo brand that recently announced a World Cup tie-in. In addition to a campaign with Latin Grammy winner Rauw Alejandro, the blended scotch whisky brand is releasing the FIFA World Cup 2026 Spirit Collection in collaboration with LA-based designers and brand partners Kids of Immigrants (KOI). This is a series of four limited-edition bottles, also with the same liquid as regular Buchanan’s, but sporting special FIFA-themed labels that are meant to “pay tribute to the fields, streets, [and] stadiums where the energy and ritmo of fútbol pulses and brings people together in celebration.”

Both of these releases are now available for preorder from Diageo’s TheBar platform: Tequila Don Julio 1942 FIFA World Cup 2026 Edition can be found here, and Buchanan’s FIFA World Cup 26 Whisky Collection here (prices will vary based on the market).
