Jane Berg has an exceptional eye not only for jewelry, but also for luxury real estate. The designer, who founded her eponymous label in 2012, built an incredible ski-in/skin-out abode in Aspen in 2021 after spending years in the heart of Chicago.

Set within the rugged Aspen Highlands, one of four distinct ski areas within the Aspen Snowmass resort, Wedge House is as striking as Berg’s glittering bling, which has been worn by celebrities such as Toni Braxton, Laverne Cox, and Taraji P. Henson.

Completing her crown jewel was no easy feat, with the location itself taking over half a decade to nail down. “It was a very long process looking for this particular site, almost seven years of searching until we found this lot to build on,” Berg told Whitewall magazine in 2024.

Berg tapped local design firm CCY Architects to bring her dream home to fruition. Firm partner John Cottle says the designer herself inspired the wedge-shaped exterior with her penchant for clean, geometric lines. “We looked at a lot of different forms of the house and got really intrigued by the idea of a simple, opening up, wedge-shaped form that respected the scale of the neighborhood and was one strong movement opening up to the mountains,” Cottle explains.

The aptly named Wedge House pops against the surrounding mountains, with a sharp, angular silhouette that punctuates the soft white snow. The steel and glass accents give the home a contemporary feel, while Douglas fir cladding adds a touch of warmth. The pad has been future-proofed, too. “We designed the home with legacy in mind,” CCY’s Evan Barrett told Modern Luxury, adding that the firm looked at what owners would need in the abode “as they aged and how future generations could enjoy the property.”

Totaling nearly 6,920 square feet, the open-plan interior showcases reclaimed woods, decorative metals, and soft fabrics that complement the alpine landscape. A custom metal kinetic screen designed and made by Berg’s brother, sculptor and artist Tom Queoff, occupies a prime position in the foyer, adding dramatic flair to the entrance.

The heart of the home is a spacious living room with a soaring wood-paneled ceiling, a cozy wood-burning fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling windows that spotlight the surrounding forests and ridgelines. You can also see the townhouse that Berg and her husband lived in before the mountain home was completed.

Further in lies a stylish kitchen with a Black Pearl granite-topped island and semi-custom Eggersmann laminate veneer cabinetry. Nearby, the primary suite—one of six bedrooms in the home—includes another fireplace and an inviting bathroom with fixtures from Watermark. A guest suite sits on the top floor, while a mudroom, spa, and family room are positioned on the lower level.

Heading outside, the covered patio is fitted with not one but two gas fire pits, a pizza oven, an outdoor kitchen, and a hot tub, making it the perfect place for après ski cocktails. Further afield are the slopes themselves. Residents enjoy direct ski-in/ski-out access to the resort via the Thunderbowl Lane skier underpass, which places them right by the Highland Bowl and Deep Temerity lift.

The fully furnished residence is asking $35 million, with Susan Hershey and Blake Greiner of Douglas Elliman holding the listing.
