Welcome to Robb Recommends, a regular series in which our editors and contributors endorse something they’ve tried and loved—and think will change your life for the better.
If you travel often—for business, pleasure, or both—then you’ll know how hard it can be to adjust your skincare routine from time zone to time zone and climate to climate. Your skin can definitely tell the difference between the crisp bite of winter in Zurich and the heat and relative humidity in Singapore. Sadly, most moisturizers can’t.
That’s precisely the issue Orveda has solved with its newest product, the Adaptive Light Brew Cream. The lightweight and elegant moisturizer is formulated to adapt to environmental changes throughout the day, whether you’re moving from your air-conditioned corner office to the heat of the sidewalk or taking a transatlantic flight to log off for a while.
On application, the product feels almost too lightweight to do anything other than protect your skin from normal daily stressors. It absorbs quickly, leaving behind a matte finish that people with oily skin, especially, will appreciate. But the formula uses what the brand calls a 3-D hydromorphing polymer, along with lotus extract, to help the skin regulate itself in response to temperature and other environmental conditions. The polymer mimics lipids in skin cell membranes and can capture moisture when humidity is high and deliver it back to the skin when the air is drier. In effect, it enhances the skin’s ability to hold onto water. Another natural extract, from silk cotton tree flowers, stimulates the natural production of hyaluronic acid and helps water enter the skin cells.
I’ve been using the moisturizer for about a month now, during a time when New York has experienced some pretty dramatic weather. I’ve found that the moisturizer has stood up to winter’s worst, keeping my skin feeling supple and supported even during an active blizzard. It’s also lightweight enough that I’m confident it won’t clog my pores when spring and summer finally break through—meaning it’s the kind of product I’ll likely use year-round, no matter where my travels take me.
