Van der Valk is entering its next big chapter.
The Dutch shipyard just launched a 131-foot superyacht that ranks as its biggest to date. The newcomer, previously known as Project Evo but christened Shine, measures the most in length and volume of any of the thousand or so yachts Van der Valk has delivered over the past 60-odd years.
Shine was commissioned by experienced seafarers, who, after owning several high-performance yachts, decided it was time to design a bespoke blue-water cruiser for the family. SFG Design penned the original 118-foot concept, then Cristiano Gatto and his eponymous firm later shaped it into the 131-footer that it is today. The naval architects at Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects helped further refine the design, while Van der Valk ensured the highest possible build quality.

“The goal was not simply to build a boat,” Gatto said in a statement. “The owner wanted a micro-megayacht built to the same standards as a 60- or 70-metre project.”
Made entirely from aluminum, Shine showcases a sporty exterior that combines a round-bilge, fast-displacement hull and a high, slightly raked bow. Gatto focused on marrying that exterior with the interior architecture. “With her dynamic lines, she clearly expresses performance,” explains the designer. “The interior needed to feel sophisticated while maintaining a visual dialogue with the exterior design.”

The living quarters represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship, featuring approximately 78 materials ranging from ebony to fine leathers and custom furniture throughout. With a beam of 28 feet, Shine offers an interior volume of 370 GT. The yacht can accommodate up to 10, with an owner’s suite on the main deck and four guest cabins on the lower deck. Three double crew cabins also sit on the lower deck, while the captain’s cabin lies on the bridge deck. Other highlights include a large swim platform at the stern, two drop-down balconies aft, and a glass-fronted Jacuzzi in the bow.
Shine will be no slouch, either. Powered by two MTU engines, the vessel is expected to have a top speed of around 20 knots, a cruising speed of 19 knots, and a range of 2,200 nautical miles. Built to ABS class, the yacht will also meet the latest IMO Tier III emissions regulations, meaning it can cruise in protected waters.

“Shine stands out as a refined and highly capable 40-metre yacht, combining sleek exterior lines with a carefully considered interior and versatile layout,” adds Yoeri Bijker, commercial director at Van der Valk. “As the largest yacht launched by Van der Valk to date, she reflects the skill and dedication of every department within our shipyard.”
Following her launch, Shine will undergo sea trials and final commissioning ahead of delivery in the summer.
