As documented by Jennifer Grant in Good Stuff, a 2011 memoir about her late father, Hollywood legend Cary Grant, she spent a great deal of time during her childhood at a lush four-acre Palm Springs estate then owned by his close friend, Las Vegas hotelier Charlie “Kewpie” Rich. Describing it as an “adolescent wonderland” and a “desert Disneyland,” as well as the family’s “number-one weekend getaway,” the palm tree-lined property was where she learned to drive a golf cart and played putt-putt golf on the manicured lawn while staying at the pool house, near the “good-for-guppy-hunting pond and gorgeous rose gardens.”
Now, four decades after the North By Northwest star’s death, his beloved Palm Springs vacation spot has popped up for sale. Consisting of four separate structures, including a poolside guesthouse built just for the actor, the asking price for the entire spread is just under $13 million, with Ernie Carswell of Sotheby’s International Realty and James Gault of Compass sharing the listing.

Dubbed Villa Paradiso by Grant, the Moorish residence in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood was originally completed in 1928 by developer Prescott T. Stevens for a Chicago heiress. Currently owned by Trumpettes founder Toni Holt Kramer and her husband, Robert, who paid $1.3 million for the walled and gated compound in 2005, it offers eight bedrooms and 14 bathrooms in 15,000 square feet across a main home, a caregiver’s cottage, a guesthouse, and the pool house, which still looks much the same as it did when the Grants vacationed there.
An additional bit of trivia: Howard Hughes is also rumored to have designed part of his infamous wood seaplane nicknamed the Spruce Goose while lounging by the swimming pool.

The pool house has two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a fireside living area with a bar.

Other highlights include a fireside living room with a crystal chandelier dangling from a beamed ceiling and a stately dining room, plus a bar-equipped parlor room, an executive office, a professional kitchen, and a posh owner’s suite occupying the second level.
With 200 mature palm trees, citrus groves, and unrivaled and uninterrupted panoramic views of the San Jacinto Mountains, the picturesque grounds also host several spots ideal for alfresco lounging and entertaining, a sculpture-clad water feature, and meandering pathways amid the sprawling grassy lawns. There’s also a climatized four-car garage and motor court.
