Michter’s already made some news with the recent announcement of the release of a god-tier whiskey in its portfolio, the very rare (and very expensive) Celebration Sour Mash. But that doesn’t mean the 10-year-old expressions in the lineup should be ignored—on the contrary, these are whiskeys worth paying attention to. The distillery just announced the release of the 2026 edition of its 10 Year Bourbon, and we have the details to share.

The foundation of the Michter’s portfolio is built upon a lineup of bourbon, rye, and American whiskey that is generally affordable (depending on the market) and uniformly very good. Then there are the special editions, including barrel-proof (but still tame, all things considered) whiskeys, whiskeys finished in toasted barrels, and some unique finishes that are part of the Legacy Series. Just above those in terms of price, but still easier to find (and afford) than the 20 and 25-year expressions and, of course, the aforementioned Celebration Sour Mash, are the 10 Year Bourbon and Rye.

Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon has been released for a few consecutive years now after skipping 2022. That year, only the 10 Year Rye was released because the distillery said the demand for the bourbon had outpaced supply. But the whiskey isn’t ready if it isn’t ready, according to distillery president Joseph J. Magliocco, who said the following in a statement last year: “Rather than on a strict age schedule, at Michter’s we bottle whiskey when our production team deems it fully matured.”

Well, this year the bourbon was apparently fully matured because the release was approved by master distiller Dan McKee and master of maturation Andrea Wilson. “Because barrels even next to each other in the rickhouse don’t necessarily all age the same, we overage our whiskey and wait beyond the ten year mark and then select fully matured barrels for Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon,” said McKee in a statement. “Our team is excited when we have 10 Year Bourbon that we feel is up to our high standards and ready to release.”

We did not get to sample this 94.4-proof bourbon yet, but Wilson provided some tasting notes to prime your palate (she’s a little biased, but it’s all we got for the moment). “The 2026 release of Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon is again a smooth, rich, complex, and captivating pour that evokes feelings of warm, reminiscent appreciation of a great whiskey,” she said. “With its rich array of flavors it continues to remind that you don’t have to have a high proof to get a rich, flavorful drinking experience.” Cheers to that sentiment.

Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon is rolling out nationally this March with a suggested retail price of $195, available at select retailers, and you can find the rest of the portfolio available at websites like ReserveBar now.
