The late architect Donald Wexler was one of the visionaries who helped define Palm Springs desert modernism, and as such, homes he designed are coveted among midcentury aficionados.

A 2,500-square-foot spread available in the Green Fairway Estates neighborhood, built in 1966 and dubbed the Royal Singapore, blends Wexler’s glassy, clean-lined aesthetic with Polynesian touches A verdant rubber tree frames the facade, where a gated entry takes you into a courtyard with one of Wexler’s signature tropical water features. Lemon-yellow double doors open to a raised walnut-paneled hall, while polished concrete pads the rest of the residence’s floors.

In the living room, a rare and fully restored Alexander Cone fireplace seems to float down from the ceiling, serving as the centerpiece in the otherwise minimally outfitted space. Nearby, the kitchen has been updated with wood-slat detailing and contemporary appliances, but it stays true to midcentury roots with modular turquoise cabinetry and a breakfast bar. In the adjoining dining room, a classic starburst light fixture dangles above the table. 

The four bedrooms include two smaller offerings and two more spacious rooms that include sitting areas. The three bathrooms, meanwhile, sport period tile work, ranging from a gray ensuite to a funky blue-and-white pattern in one of the showers. The furnishings and artwork can be purchased separately.

The Royal Singapore abuts the Tahquitz Creek golf course with the third fairway obscured behind hedging. Here, you can splash around in the mod kidney-shaped saltwater pool. Tiles reminiscent of the kitchen’s color scheme wrap around the patio, leading to a newly built grill area for outdoor dining. Louis Magnano at Modern California House holds the $1.8 million listing.

Along with the Royal Singapore, several other Wexler properties have hit the market over the past year, including the last home he designed—he sketched out a more contemporary abode in 2011, but it was only recently completed, years after his 2015 death—and another landmark dwelling dating back to the 1950s is now priced at $3.6 million after it first popped up at $3.8 million.
