Six Senses is officially joining the flurry of luxe hotels that have landed in the Big Smoke.
The hotelier is opening a luxe new property in London this week, marking its entry in the U.K. hospitality space and another step its mission to bring wellness-focused hot spots to cities around the globe. And the new accommodation will be housed in the former Whiteleys building, one of London’s first department stores—an intriguing area in the city, one that’s been undergoing a revitalization as of late in efforts to turn it into a prime luxury locale just above Hyde Park.
Sixes Senses London is focused on bringing about a, well, sense of stillness to your sojourns, one that allows you to take step back from the hubbub of the metropolis around you. And all that slowing down starts right you’ll rest your head: The hotel offers up 109 rooms and suites within its Grade II-listed locale (complete with a domed roof and a historic facade), many of which come with their own private terrace for you to lounge in seclusion.

The sun-filled Junior Corner Terrace Suite.
The interiors got a contemporary upgrade courtesy of AvroKO, as well as the teams at EPR Architects and Foster + Partners. A Premier room, for one, is home to a glass-encased shower along with touches of terra-cotta and blue hues. The Junior Corner Terrace Suite, meanwhile, is wrapped in its own balcony, paired with a green-tiled bathroom that even has its own door leading outside. As for the Notting Hill Suite (paging Julia Roberts), those digs come with a balcony, too, complete with a picnic table and plenty of lounging areas; the accommodation also places a tub right in your bedroom and offers up a living room and kitchen.
The crème de la crème, though, is the Whiteley Suite, which stretches across the entire building—and the full-length terrace does, too, giving you a prime perch to take in the sights. The accommodation includes two primary bedrooms, complete with those warm, inviting blues, greens, and reds, as well as stunning marble splashed across the bathrooms, with spacious standalone tubs to boot, and a roomy kitchen don up in a light sage. And, of course, you can expect floor-to-ceiling windows through, blurring the lines between inside and outside seamlessly.
As far as food, you’ll find all your noshes at Whiteley’s Kitchen, Bar and Café. Under the helm of executive chef Eliano Crespi, the dishes are a veggie-centric take on British cuisine, while the café is home to homemade ice cream, pastries, and, of course, coffee. For tipples, the bar offers up natural wines and cocktails built around seasonal flavors, which are made behind a striking green bar.

The hotel’s spacious pool.

And for more of that stillness, head to the nearly 24,800-square-foot spa, spanning across one floor at the hotel. There, you can find London’s first magnesium pool, a biohacking recovery lounge, a massive indoor swimming pool, a floatation room, and even more treatments focused on longevity. And to dive even deeper than your typical wellness offerings—though we wouldn’t say no to the De Mamiel lymphatic body reset—Six Senses is offering up the Alchemy Bar, a modern take on an apothecary where guests can learn how local British herbs can be used for scrubs and other daily remedies.
“Transforming the iconic The Whiteley building into Six Senses London marks a defining moment for IHG’s Luxury and Lifestyle portfolio,” Tom Rowntree, the VP of Global Luxury Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said in an statement. “Bringing Six Senses into select urban destinations is a direct response to our loyal guests, who have told us they want to experience the Six Senses way of life closer to home or as they move through the world’s great cities. Whether in Rome, Kyoto or London and soon to be Milan and Dubai, our city hotels introduce a different rhythm to urban life. Here, guests will experience the Six Senses DNA—creating calming, restorative spaces where intuitive hospitality, impeccable design and elevated wellness come together to foster a genuine sense of connection for residents, locals, and guests alike.”
Six Senses London will be home to plenty of other firsts, too. The hotelier’s first private members club, the Place, will allows its compatriots to mingle and connect in cozy environs, accented by muted-blue walls, pops of terra-cotta, and warm woods abound. And there will be plenty of branded residences on site as well: 14, in fact, ranging from one- to two-bedroom abodes, including duplexes and penthouses.
As the newest member of IHG’s Luxury and Lifestyle portfolio, Six Senses London in Bayswater opens its doors on March 1. A stay starts from around $1,150 (£850) per night.
