If Reno had a real estate Mount Rushmore, this place would surely make the cut. A sprawling, opulently appointed estate originally built for late casino titan William Pennington—one of the gaming industry’s most influential figures—has returned to the market asking a speck under $14 million, offering a shot at owning a slice of Nevada history with some serious bragging rights. Completed in the early 2000s for the executive behind casino resorts such as Circus Circus, Luxor, Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay, the grandiose mansion sits on just over 14 acres in southwest Reno.
Despite changing hands since Pennington’s 2011 death, the home remains defined by his larger-than-life legacy. It also happens to be something of a local celebrity. When it last sold in 2023 for $10.325 million, it set the record for the most expensive single-family home ever purchased in Reno. Today, it sits just behind Reno’s current top listing—a $15.9 million mansion perched above the Truckee River—cementing its status among the city’s most rarefied properties. Samantha Saquella of RE/MAX Professionals Reno holds the listing.

Throughout the unapologetically grand manse, you’ll find globally sourced stone, exotic woods, and ornate millwork. The dramatic rotunda entry showcases a soaring Venetian plastered ceiling, while the formal living room features a chateau-worthy stone fireplace and massive floor-to-ceiling windows.
The west wing is anchored by an expansive primary suite comprising a sitting room, spacious bath, private veranda, and a walk-in closet setup complete with its own laundry. A separate wing for entertaining includes a circular sunken bar that flows into a wine cellar and billiards room, while the chef’s kitchen is equipped with a Wolf range, leathered stone counters, a butler’s pantry, and a separate back kitchen for catering large-scale gatherings.

The lower level is jam-packed with even more perks: a professional home theater with a snack bar, a private gym, a beauty salon, and a dedicated craft room. Collectors will appreciate the secured gallery space, while three en suite bedrooms open directly to the pool terrace. Across the property, mature landscaping is punctuated by statues, fountains, sweeping lawns, and a swimming pool and spa framed by multiple patios and an outdoor fireplace. There’s also garage space for eight cars—plus a motor court that can handle dozens more.
Beyond the obvious flash, the estate comes with a practical financial perk increasingly attractive to out-of-state buyers: Nevada’s famously favorable tax climate, including no state income tax.
