You’re about to see the Roof of the World in a whole new light.
Luxury tour operator Remote Lands just unveiled a new 15-day adventure that takes you on a lesser-traveled path to Mount Everest’s Base Camp, one that lets you truly soak in the journey at a slower, more relaxed pace. And you won’t be traversing the Himalayas alone, of course: Pro mountaineer Jamling Tenzing Norgay will be your guide, and exploring this vast terrain is in his DNA—his father, Tenzing Norgay, was one of the first people to reach Everest’s summit in 1953.
On the route itself, you and your fellow travelers will be hiking shorter distances while using helicopters to pass over more congested areas, meaning that you’ll see some pretty spectacular views from the skies. You’ll also be taking the scenic way up Everest, taking time to stop at monasteries and other temples as you travel from Namche to Deboche to Kongde, which is outside the usual path trekkers take. Plus, your chopper will land right at Everest Base Camp (a.k.a. the foot of the great mountain), where you’ll get to rest your head for a night in a private tented camp at a cool 17,598 feet above sea level—an opportunity usually afforded only to official mountaineering expeditions. And since the experience takes place at the end of the trekking season, it’s likely that you’ll have the Base Camp entirely to yourself.

The adventure gives you a chance to take the path less traveled up to Base Camp.

In addition to guidance from Norgay, each couple or guest on the journey will have their own private guide and porter, so you can control how rapidly (or not) you’d like to move up the mountain. There are days, too, built into the schedule to allow you to get accustomed to the extreme altitude changes.
You won’t need to sacrifice any comforts on your way up the world’s tallest mountain, either. You’ll be staying in a series of luxe lodges throughout the journey, kicking things off at Dwarika’s Hotel in Kathmandu. From there, you’ll bounce between a series of mountain lodges perched on the slopes, all offering incredible views of those mountain peaks and a taste of Nepalese culture.

Your journey will be guided by Jamling Tenzing Norgay, son of one of the first men to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
“This journey reflects how we believe high-end adventure travel should feel,” Catherine Heald, CEO and cofounder of Remote Lands, said in a press release. “It’s not about racing to Everest Base Camp, but about experiencing the journey in a more thoughtful way. By combining mindful trekking with helicopters, exceptional lodges, and rare access, we’ve created a more immersive and rewarding way to experience one of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes.”
The Hiking & Helicopters in Nepal: The Secret Path to Everest experience will take place from May 16 to 30, limited to just 12 guests and priced from $29,032 per person. Happy hiking.
