As the Winter Olympics have just drawn to a close, many cognoscenti of sport now turn their attention to basketball’s greatest month and the college tournament known the world over as March Madness. After the 68-team bracket is revealed on Sunday, March 15, the competition will commence two days later across the country, running until the NCAA Championship game on April 6 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Aside from the final buzzer crowning the victor, the highlight for a fortunate few will be Robb Report’s own Beyond the Madness: A Weekend in Vegas getaway. The three-day, two-night viewing party takes place from March 20 through 22 in the desert oasis that’s on a fast break to become the sporting capital of the West. And on hand to serve as guide and pundit for the roundball action will be James Worthy, a member of the Hall of Fame in both college basketball and the NBA.

Participants in this VIP package arrive on Friday and check into their own One Bedroom Entertainment Suite at Crockfords, the premiere hospitality provider at Resorts World on the Las Vegas Strip. Each of the 1,250-square-foot sanctuaries—providing stellar views of the city and surrounding landscape—features a wet bar, a personal lounge space, a dining area, a separate bedroom, and what Crockfords calls a “spa-inspired ensuite bathroom” with a large, standalone tub and a separate rain shower.  

The official welcome commences with instruction on mixology and the art of charcuterie at Wally’s Wine Bar, followed by dinner at Michelin-starred Stubborn Seed with chef Jeremy Ford, a winner on the Top Chef television series. Those up for a nightcap have Eight Cigar Lounge, where event partner Cohiba will host a Cut and Light session while non-smokers can imbibe in an array of fine spirits complemented by an atmosphere redolent with pregame camaraderie.

Saturday’s viewing party takes place on the 66th floor’s expansive yet sequestered Allē Lounge, equipped with ubiquitous large-screen TVs for the occasion. The programming, which runs from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., will comprise watching multiple second-round NCAA basketball games, as well as sampling ample ancillary amenities that include an array of amuse-bouche, a Louis XIII tasting, a Formula 1 simulator, and appointments at Awana Spa, of which each package includes one treatment. In addition, those looking for the shopping equivalent of a full-court press will be a fan of the Prada pop-up boutique activated specifically for our RR1 club members.

Other highlights scheduled between games are two brief panel discussions. First on the conversational menu is chef Shaun Hergatt, the culinary artisan behind Michelin-starred Vestry and Juni, along with his eponymous SHO Shaun Hergatt, which has garnered two Michelin stars. The second insightful discourse will be with none other than Worthy himself, the guest of honor.

The basketball icon, with the well-deserved nickname “Big Game,” is one of the sport’s great ambassadors. According to the communications team at the University of North Carolina’s Athletics department, he “was one of the best players in Carolina history and in 1996 was named one of the Top 50 players in NBA history. A power forward who could dominate with his speed and agility . . .” In 1982, Worthy was the first pick in the NBA draft. Selected by the Los Angeles Lakers, he stayed with the team through 1994 and was part of three NBA Championship–winning seasons with the organization. Worthy will also be on hand to offer game analysis, mingle with attendees, and sign more than a few basketballs as mementos.

As for Saturday evening, while left open to guests, there’s the included option of dining at Resorts World’s own Kusa Nori, where a prix-fixe menu has been prepared, as well as joining in for a repeat of the festivities from the night before at Eight Cigar Lounge. Prior to parting ways on Sunday, a farewell brunch will double as a forum for a bit of prognostication regarding how the tournament will ultimately play out.

Regarding the latter, it’s anyone’s guess, of course, but the top three teams in the NCAA are currently Duke, followed by Arizona and Michigan, respectively. No matter the outcome, the Beyond the Madness: A Weekend in Vegas, priced at $4,900 per couple ($3,600 for a single guest), promises to be a winning proposition no matter where your loyalties lie.
