A recently listed Vancouver property looks like it would be more at home in Palm Springs than the Great White North—and that’s exactly the point.

The Lakeberg Residence—named after the forestry executives who originally owned the home—is a West Vancouver estate that took inspiration from California midcentury design, specifically Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms. Like the late crooner’s E. Stewart Williams-designed abode, the Canadian residence includes a breezeway leading to the entrance, a kidney-shaped pool out back, and tropical landscaping. Designed by Thompson, Berwick & Pratt in 1957, the wonderfully retro pad brings West Coast cool to British Columbia.

The five-bedroom, four-bath home spans two levels, although it looks like a single-story structure from the street. On the main floor, there’s a classic midcentury sunken living room, with Roman brick used for the fireplace and the walls. Pyramid mahogany is found throughout the living room, the dining room, and the entry, as both paneling and for many of the built-in features. The mod kitchen, meanwhile, is all blocky white cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances.

The home’s lower level is something of an entertainer’s paradise. A darker, moodier family room incorporates many of the materials seen above, but it has more of a subterranean lounge vibe. Terrazzo flooring leads to a wood-paneled wet bar—you can just imagine the sort of parties that would have taken place here in the Swinging Sixties—with direct access to the pool area. An additional patio is found at the top of the stairs, just outside the main floor.

Listed with West Coast Modern, the Lakeberg Residence carries a price tag of $5 million. And while it was inspired by Sinatra’s Palm Springs home, it doesn’t have any direct ties to Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. (Twin Palms is now used commercially and is also available for rentals.) If you are interested in properties that Sinatra himself visited or owned, a couple have popped up in recent years: The singer rented out a suburban Los Angeles estate that hit the market last year for $8 million. And just a couple months ago, a Hollywood Hills abode that once hosted Sinatra listed for $7.5 million, and it’s still available.
