Klafs wants to give even those tight on space a chance to sweat it out at home.
The German brand has just unveiled what it claims is the world’s first retractable sauna, providing the space conscious with a way to create steamy environs without sacrificing too much real estate.
The new S1 combines revolutionary tech with a minimalist aesthetic, making it a practical and sophisticated addition to the home spa. The sauna can transform from bookshelf proportions to three times the size with the touch of a button, meaning you get a full sauna experience without losing valuable square footage.

The S1 sits flush against the wall, like a built-in, when not in use, but extends outward like an accordion when turned on. It takes just 45 seconds for the sauna to expand from the fully retracted depth of 24 inches to the full size of 63 inches. It is available in three sizes—small, medium, and large—each of which can welcome two to three people.
“For nearly a century, Klafs has pushed the boundaries of sauna design, and the S1 represents our most transformative innovation for the wellness industry yet,” Klafs CEO Phillip Rock said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to introduce a luxury wellness experience that makes sauna ownership attainable for people who may not have considered it possible due to limited space in their homes.”

The S1, of course, carries the elegance for which Klafs is renowned. Founded in 1928, the German outfit has garnered a reputation for quality craftsmanship, engineering, and design, making it a firm favorite among five-star hotels, wellness resorts, and discerning homeowners. As with the other luxury saunas in the Klafs lineup, the S1 showcases sleek, architectural lines and premium finishes. The insulated walls are paired with large panels of thick 8 mm glass that afford views inside and out. The exterior can be finished in matte black or walnut, while the interior is entirely walnut to ensure a warm, cozy feel.

Equipped with the proprietary Sanarium control, the S1 offers five distinct heat and humidity combinations, ranging from a traditional dry sauna to intense tropical steam. You can use your WiFi-enabled device or the built-in touchscreen to set the temperature (up to 210 degrees Fahrenheit), the humidity, and the lighting. You can also play music, podcasts, or even guided meditations through the integrated Bluetooth speakers.
“By combining advanced engineering with thoughtful, space-efficient design, we’ve created a sauna solution that elevates wellness in any home,” Rock adds.
The S1 will be available in the U.S. starting this summer. For more information, visit the Klafs website.
