The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is saying ciao to one of Italy’s most spectacular coastal enclaves.

The legendary luxury train, operated by Belmond and not part of the Accor-managed Orient Express brand, will journey to the Amalfi Coast for the first time early next year. The 2026 season also includes new three-day Italian itineraries culminating in Venice and Florence. All trips allow travelers to explore Europe’s most romantic cities from the comfort of a carriage and stay in some of Belmond’s finest hotels. 

The three-day Amalfi route, part of the Villeggiatura by Train series, kicks off in Paris on May 4, 2026. Guests will be treated to a Champagne welcome as they settle into one of the opulent, midnight-blue twin cabins, elegant suites, or top-tier Grand Suites.

The train will then travel south from the French capital towards Pompeii, offering breathtaking views of the countryside along the way. Guests can indulge in an exceptional menu inspired by the regions on the route, followed by cocktails and live music in the iconic Bar Car “3674.”

The train will arrive in the ancient Italian city around lunchtime, with travelers disembarking shortly after for a guided tour of the historic ruins. Those in the Grand Suites will be given exclusive access to the rarely opened Casa del Larario Regio V, an excavated Pompeii house that provides a snapshot into ancient life. 

The train will then head to the charming, cliffside resort town of Ravello, where guests will enjoy a two-night stay in Belmond’s grandiose Caruso hotel. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Amalfi Coast, the revamped 11th-century palace combines charming original details, such as frescoes and vaulted ceilings, with modern luxuries, like a newly restyled infinity pool that sits 1,000 feet above the sea. 

The first evening will spotlight the Cilento region’s local delicacies, including Controne beans, anchovies, soppressata, and artichokes. Caruso’s executive chef, Armando Aristarco, will also host a live cooking demonstration by the hotel’s wood-fired pizza oven. The evening will be capped off with regional wines, traditional Cilento music, and incredible Mediterranean vistas.

The next day, guests are invited to explore the area by land or sea. You could embark on a boat tour of Positano or take a painting class with a local artist, for instance. That evening, a gala dinner will take place in Caruso’s Wagner Gardens, beginning with aperitivo and ending with a fine-dining extravaganza. It’s the perfect way to salute the three-day adventure.

Prices for Villeggiatura by Train start from £8,600 (about $11,400) per person based on two guests sharing on the Paris to the Amalfi Coast itinerary. (That includes a Historic Cabin on the VSOE and two nights in a Superior Garden View Room at Caruso.)
