The New Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Delivers Opulence and Power

Leave it to Mercedes-Maybach to give its parent company’s flagship luxury vehicle an even more glamourous makeover.

The ultra-luxury sub-brand has just unveiled its take on the refreshed S-Class. The four-door comes features a slew of new opulent details, inside and out, along with optional V-12 power.

The new S-Class, which will debut as a 2027 model, is plenty stylish, but the designers at Maybach still saw an opportunity to take things up a notch or two. The main change can be found up front, where the nose is adorned with a version of the sub-brand’s vertical-slatted grille that’s 20 percent bigger than before and now features an illuminated surround. Other changes include rose-gold accents for the twin-star headlamps, an illuminated Maybach emblem on the C-pillar, and 20- or 21-inch forged wheels with a silver finish and a three-pointed star at their center that always remains upright thanks to a refined ball-bearing mechanism. Two-tone finishes and an illuminated Mercedes star hood ornament are available as premium add-ons.

The cabin has been subtly redesigned to deliver what Maybach calls an “enveloping calm.” A long list of decorative option, like over 400 interior colors, including new hues Beech Brown, Lake Green, Corn Yellow and Tobacco Brown, and Active Ambient Lighting, allow buyers to turn the interior into the lounge of their dreams. The space also comes loaded with tech, like the dashboard-spanning MBUX Superscreen up front and two 13.1-inch display located on the back of the headrests of the front seats that now come standard.

Two version of the Maybach S-Class will be available at launch. The S 580 is powered by a re-engineered 4.0-liter turbocharged V-8 found in the standard sedan. Here, thanks to some mild hybrid help, it makes 530 hp and 553 ft lbs of torque. The more powerful S 680, which only be available in the U.S. and other select market, comes with a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 that make 621 hp and 664 ft lbs of torque. Both cars come with Mercedes’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

The new Maybach S-Class is scheduled make it to our shores during the second half of the year. Pricing has yet to be announced, but an increase on the current Maybach S 580’s $233,550 and S 680’s $270,750 starting prices seems likely because of the current tariff situation.
