The Gordon Murray Automotive T.33 Nears Production Years After Debut


The Gordon Murray T.50 is probably the only supercar that matters right now, crafted by the man behind the McLaren F1. The T.33 is its little sister, a slightly more sensible supercar that is designed to be the only one you need. Both were announced years ago and, now, the T.33 is finally headed to production following the completion of the T.50’s production run this summer.

Test versions of the T.33 have been seen out and about, according to Autocar, suggesting the commencement of production is near. The new supercar was supposed to begin production a couple years ago but got pushed back by the T.50, which was delayed itself. Production setbacks at supercar makers usually signal money troubles behind the scenes, and at Gordon Murray Automotive the situation is no different, though the money troubles don’t sound existential.

“Financial pressures were another issue for GMA, originating from the high cost of development,” Autocar reports. “This is probably why the company chose to prioritize the factory line for its new Le Mans GTR and S1 LM—two high-cost, ultra-low-volume models that launched its new bespoke Special Vehicle division. The first of three S1 LMs sold at auction for £15.8 million.”

Gordon Murray Automotive got tens of millions in new capital in 2025, which will allow the company to proceed with T.33 production. The supercar is powered by a 3.9-liter, naturally aspirated V-12 engine designed by Cosworth that makes 600 horsepower. That engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and revs to 11,100 rpm, meaning, among other things, it will make an impressive noise. The 100-example production run of the T.33 is said to be sold out already, though a convertible version is coming as well, along with a track-focused version named for Niki Lauda.

Gordon Murray has also previously expressed interest in making electric SUVs for the American market, though that was in a slightly different time, when electric cars were still in high demand. Still, it would not be a surprise if Murray is cooking up something else beyond the current slate of T.50, T.33, and the bespoke one-offs and few-offs. For car designers, and especially Gordon Murray, it’s all about the next thing.
