Helen Mirren will rightly receive one of Hollywood’s highest honors in the new year.
The Golden Globes today announced that the acclaimed English actress will be presented with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award in recognition of her indelible contributions to the entertainment industry over the past six decades. Both the Cecil B. DeMille Award and the Carol Burnett Award will be bestowed upon honorees during the “Golden Eve” primetime special this January.
“Helen Mirren is a force of nature and her career is nothing short of extraordinary,” Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said in a statement. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike. It is a profound honor to present her with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.”
Mirren began her career as a performer at the U.K.’s National Youth Theatre at the age of 18. She went on to grace both screen and stage, from playing Lady Macbeth in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 1974 production to portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 blockbuster The Queen. She has demonstrated incredible range, morphing into everything from a monarch to a mob wife. Her work across theatre, film, and television has earned her an impressive number of accolades, including one Oscar, three Golden Globes, four Emmys, five SAG awards, four BAFTAs, and soon, the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Created in 1952 in honor of its eponymous director, the Cecil B. DeMille Award has been presented to greats such as Walt Disney, Audrey Hepburn, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Oprah Winfrey, to name but a few. Both it and the Carol Burnett Award will be presented on Golden Eve. The exclusive special, airing on CBS from 8 p.m. ET on January 8 and streaming on Paramount+, will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at each honoree’s legacy with curated career retrospectives, never-before-seen footage, unforgettable Golden Globes moments, and in-depth conversations.
Golden Eve is part of the newly established Golden Week. The week-long extravaganza, which includes events in Los Angeles, as well as content across Paramount platforms, will act as a fittingly extravagant and entertaining prelude to the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony. Hosted by comedian and actress Nikki Glaser, Hollywood’s Party of the Year will celebrate the best of film, television, and now podcasting. The show will be aired on CBS from 8 p.m. ET on January 11 and can also be streamed on Paramount+.
