The First Regent Spa & Wellness Just Opened Its Doors in Bali

Regent’s new wellness concept has a certain Indonesian isle on the mind.

The brand’s Bali Canggu hotel, nestled between the crystal-clear Indian Ocean and Bali’s rice fields, is now home to the world’s first Regent Spa & Wellness. Just unveiled this week, the new spot combines Indonesia’s ancient traditions with modern sciences for a soothing retreat that’ll offer you much more than just a typical massage.

Regent, which falls under the IHG umbrella, tapped the hotelier’s wellness arm, Raison d’Etre, to bring a restorative experience guests’ way, one meant to impact each and every one of your senses. That journey begins the second you step through the spa’s striking front gate: Before you start any treatments, you can partake in the Reset, a ritual that focuses on self-guided meditation and an immersive soundscape experience within a traditional wooden cabana among the hotel’s lush gardens.

The hotel will has a symphony of offerings that you’ll undergo in a particular order to purportedly maximize their effectiveness. A massage treatment, for one, will have you perched on a warm quartz sand bed, which lets the masseuse really work out any and all tension you may (read: are) carrying; also on the spa menu is a crystal energy-focused massage. Another ritual, called the Healing Zen, uses rhythmic touch, breathwork, and warm stones to help you find balance. And the facial on offer uses California-based Kerstin Florian’s products paired with LED light therapy and electrical muscle stimulation for a potent treatment, too. Plus, some treatment rooms open right up to the great outdoors via massive pocket doors, making nature even more of a companion on your retreat.

The new concept offers plenty outside of the treatment rooms, too, like this whirlpool.

As for activities outside of the treatment room, Regent Spa has both active and passive offerings, inspired by the dance between Yin and Yang. So, you can pair your calmer yoga sessions with higher-intensity workouts (with varying temperatures between each practice), all in the name of balance. For some solo reflection, the hotel offers up a private space with views of the ocean blue and surrounding flora, too. And here, neutral color palettes are a thing of the past: The new spot ditches some of the usual design elements found in wellness facilities.

“Regent Spa & Wellness turns traditional spas on their head. Gone are traditional neutral pallets, candled corridors and run-of-the-mill relaxation rooms and in their place, colorful palettes, visual art paths and energy baths,” Anna-Cari Gund, managing director of Raison d’Etre, said in a press statement. “Our aim is to bring energy to our guests that takes them to new personal heights, all within mystical, otherworldly spaces and through therapeutic experiences that follow an intelligent formula.”

Future iterations of Regent Spa & Wellness are expected to pop up around the globe—perhaps they’ll take strong cues from their locales, too.
