The Cleveland Cavs Are Opening a Private Members’ Club in Rocket Arena

The Cleveland Cavaliers will have a new star this NBA season—but not on the court.

The defending Central Division champs and the h.wood Group have teamed up to create an invite-only private members’ club inside Cleveland’s famous Rocket Arena. Hipp will give members the full VIP treatment on game day and beyond, offering slam-dunk refreshments and privacy from the masses.

The h.wood Group, the Los Angeles-based hospitality outfit behind celebrity-laden Hollywood hotspots Delilah, the Bird Streets Club, and Bootsy Bellows, hopes to bring its signature impeccable service to the new supper club-inspired venue. Members can enjoy chef-driven meals and cocktails before the game starts, as well as “tailored experiences” throughout the NBA season.

“Hipp is designed to offer a white-glove gameday experience from start to finish,” John Terzian and Brian Toll of the h.wood Group tell Robb Report. “Every detail has been considered, from the guest journey to an elevated culinary program, with an exciting menu concept that changes game to game and a Grab and Go room with a candy wall to keep things fresh and fun for patrons.”

You can expect a fittingly luxurious setting, too: h.wood and the Cavs worked alongside architectural firm Populous on the design of Hipp, taking inspiration from Cleveland’s historic Hippodrome Theatre. (That explains the club’s name.) Built in 1907 from a design by architect John Elliott, the Hippodrome originally hosted operas, plays, and vaudeville shows before becoming the nation’s largest movie theater in the 1930s. It was sadly demolished in 1980 to make way for a parking lot, but its legacy lives on in the new club.

Hipp evokes an opulent playhouse, with a bold palette, swathes of rich velvet, and plenty of colorful art. “From the golden walls to the marble bar, the interiors provide a sense of grandeur,” add Terzian and Toll.

HIPP is capped at just 100 members. Membership includes a private entrance with valet parking and all refreshments inside, as well as unlimited concessions and access to all clubs throughout Rocket Arena.

“Hipp sets the global benchmark for luxury in sports and entertainment,” Nic Barlage, CEO of Rock Entertainment Group, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Rocket Arena, said in a statement. “Through our partnership with h.wood Group, we are unveiling an unmatched concept in the industry—HIPP is an experience unlike any other.“
