The ARB Earth Camper Is a Teardrop Trailer for Off-Road Adventures

One of Australia’s first overlanding brands is finally bringing its debut trailer to the U.S.

Adventurers who like to stray from the beaten path will soon be able to buy ARB’s Earth Camper via Las Vegas-based Xgrid Campers. The rugged compact trailer was designed specifically for off-roading and can be turned into a hybrid-walled basecamp.

ARB has been working in the 4×4 space for more than a half-century, but it wasn’t until earlier this decade that the company built its first RV, according to New Atlas. At a glance, the Earth Camper may look like any other off-road teardrop trailer, but closer inspection shows it to be so much more.

The company’s pod-like caravan is a single-axle model that stretches 15.33 feet in length and stands nearly eight feet tall. The interior of the vehicle is surprisingly spacious, boasting enough room for a queen-sized bed, something you won’t find in many teardrop models. But there’s more to the Earth Camper than just the main cabin. The large, electronically controlled rear hatch also serves as the roof for an external tented area that can be used as a dining room, entertainment area, guest room (Xgrid says the trailer can sleep two to four people), and patio. The trailer does lack a bathroom—which is disappointing, though not unexpected in the class—but a Joolca Hottap heated shower system is available as an add-on.

The only real difference between the U.S.-bound Earth Camper and the one sold in ARB’s home country is the exterior kitchenette. The American-spec model’s slide-out galley is smaller than the original trailer’s, but still features a two-burner range, a sink, and plenty of counter space. There’s also a 96-liter dual-zone freezer box. Other features include a 100-Ah battery (a 300-Ah pack is also available) supported by a 120-watt solar panel, a Redarc battery management system, and a 120-liter fresh water tank. There is also plenty of storage for gear and other necessities, both inside and out.
