Samsung‘s newest phone is coming in hot.
Fresh off its appearance at this year’s Computer Electronics Show, or CES, in Las Vegas, the Galaxy Z TriFold from the tech giant will officially hit the U.S. market on January 30, the tech giant announced on Tuesday. And the folding phone will be priced from $2,899—quite the price tag, one that is loftier than any other smartphone currently on sale. (An iPhone 17 Pro Max, the newest model, retails from $1,999 with 2 TB of storage.)
The TriFold, which is home to 512 gigabytes of storage, can fold—as the same suggests—three times, revealing a much-larger screen than its predecessors that can stretch to a 10-inch tablet when fully opened. The screen also offers up an AMOLED display, which is a step up from your regular ol’ cellphone quality. Available only in a black colorway, the phone sits at just 3.9 mm at its thinnest and also plays host to a 200 MP camera. And, in terms of durability, Samsung put the phone through a rigorous test cycle, folding the phone 200,000 times to ensure that its quality would stand the test of time—often a problem with folding phones, as creasing can become a major annoyance.

Samsung
“Samsung has a long history of pioneering category defining devices,” Drew Blackard, senior VP of mobile product management at Samsung Electronics America, said in a press statement. “Galaxy Z TriFold builds on that legacy with a standout form factor that allows users to enjoy the convenience of a smartphone and the usability of a tablet within a single design that can fold into your pocket.”
This isn’t the first foldable phone from Samsung, either. The original Galaxy Fold launched back in 2019 (which we tested upon its debut), with a sale price of $1,980. Though we felt the folded screen had some success, like five-camera system, there were some issues that we noticed (like creasing and some other durability concerns). Since then, the tech giant has spawned other iterations of its folding smartphones, like its Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, which we felt was superior to its successors in every way, surpassing them in build quality and more. We’ll have to wait and see if Samsung got the recipe right with the Galaxy Z TriFold, then. The new phone will be available to purchase at Samsung stores and Samsung.com on Friday.
