Porsche Expands Electric Cayenne Lineup With New S Model

The Porsche Cayenne Electric has yet to go on sale in the U.S., but that’s not going to stop its lineup from growing.

The German marque just announced a third version of its latest battery-powered SUV called the Cayenne S Electric. The newest member of the trio will slot in between the previously announced base model and the Turbo, offering more performance than the former in a less intimidating package than the latter.

The Cayenne S Electric, like its two siblings, is powered by a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain. In the new variant, this set up produces 536 hp in most situations but ups things to 657 hp when launch control mode is engaged. Its maximum output easily bests that of the standard Cayenne Electric, which makes 435 hp, but lags far behind that of the turbo, which makes an outlandish 1,139 hp. The new model’s performance may be mid-tier for the EV, but it’s a more than respectable amount. Porsche says its latest SUV can still sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph, numbers that that will be more than enough for all but the most demanding drivers.

The Cayenne S Electric also shares a high-voltage battery pack with its siblings. The unit has a gross energy of 113 kWh and can charge at speed of up to 400 kW. This means that it can charge from 10- to 80-percent capacity in just 16 minutes when connected to a fast-charging station. Porsche has yet to announce a range for the EV, but Car and Driver suggests it will likely be able to travel 320 miles between charges.

The variant, unsurprisingly, look just like the other Cayenne Electrics. The big difference is model-specific Volcano Grey Metallic trim in the front and back. A set of 20-inch Cayenne S Aero wheels also comes standard. Inside, there’s a newly available Interior Style package. It features two-tone upholstery done up in black and Delgada Green.
