There is a photograph, somewhere in the archives of Orlando Bloom‘s childhood, of him standing beside a 1960s Porsche 911 near Whitstable beach on the Kent coast of England. Silver body, red interior. What he remembers more than anything else is simply how this car made him feel.

“The car was so cool,” he says, laughing at the memory, “and it made you look cool to even stand next to it, so I got photos in front of it with my best friend. I remember at 11 years old thinking, one day,” he paused. “This is definitely the dream.”

The actor, still revered as Legolas from his cult breakout role in Lord of the Rings, and to others, Will Turner of the famed Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, has evolved as a genuine connoisseur of luxury since being named a Porsche Design brand ambassador in 2025. His relationship with the Stuttgart manufacturer, however, predates any title and is considerably more personal.

At the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles this month, Orlando Bloom speaks less like a celebrity brand ambassador and more like a devoted enthusiast. The actor’s long-standing relationship with Porsche, rooted in his boyhood obsession of vintage 911s and a recent pilgrimage to Stuttgart to spec his own GT3 Touring, laid the groundwork for his collaboration with Porsche Design unveiled today: a refined capsule of three Targa Sunglasses, alongside a limited-edition jacket he rhapsodizes over with unwavering passion.

The sunglasses take their cue from the 911 Targa—an iconic model named after the century-old Sicilian road race, the Targa Florio, long associated with Porsche’s motorsport legacy. “The Targa is an insane vehicle,” Bloom said. “This car is the example of Porsche’s excellence in design, function, and form.”

The design language of the eyewear draws specifically from the Targa’s roll bar, a defining structural element that debuted in 1965 as a safety solution for open-top driving that has since become one of Porsche’s most recognizable signatures. Its curvature is translated into an oversized shield silhouette with a forward cut-out construction that feels both technical and architectural.

Bloom didn’t reinvent the form, he customized it, much like a Porsche owner could with a base model at the Manufaktur in Germany. The shield-style frames reinterpret the silhouette of the 911 Targa in a lightweight titanium, finished with a clean, aerodynamic profile. “The shape was already great,” Bloom says. “I just wanted to personalize the details—the finishes, the colors, the way it feels when you wear it.”

The result is three configurations, though Bloom admits the collection was initially meant to include only two references until he pushed for a third, unable to choose. As he lists the available colorways, the actor includes where they might belong in the wild: titanium and black with a grey lens for every day, gold and olive green with a brown lens for a seasonal mountain escape, and black and palladium with a punchy blue mirrored lens for a beach day in Ibiza. Each pair features “Vision Drive” technology, engineered for specific road conditions and exceptional clarity for everyday wear, reflecting the brand’s enduring commitment to performance-led design.

Accompanying the eyewear is a sleek but technical leather jacket, which Bloom was sporting proudly throughout the afternoon. A reversible, boxy structure in water-repellent black leather, it features a two-way zipper, adjustable cord stoppers, and perforated leather ventilation beneath the arms. “This is more than just a jacket,” Bloom says, as he enthusiastically unzips hidden vents and pockets to demonstrate its utility. “I figured, what are the essentials for a driver? Sunglasses, a watch, and a lightweight jacket that you can get in and out of the car with. Simple things that represent the vision of F.A. Porsche himself who was a design genius.” Subtle Porsche Design branding is emblazoned on the left sleeve, balanced with Orlando Bloom’s “OB” initials on the right.

The Targa Sunglasses retail for $655, and the leather jacket for $2,850, both available now. “I’m just very happy to be a part of the family and to be able to have this creative outlet,” he shares. “And now, I want to make a pant to go with it.”
