Oberoi’s First Private Residence Is a Luxe 19th-Century Fort in India

Oberoi’s newest outpost in India is, quite literally, its strongest yet.

Naila Fort is a 19th-century stronghold near Jaipur that the hotel group has reimagined as a luxurious private residence. It is available exclusively for full buyout stays, with bookings open from February 15.

Originally built in 1849 by the Champawat clan, the historic structure has been meticulously restored to ensure the grand architecture of Rajasthan remains the focus. The area is dotted with many extravagant forts and palaces built by the Rajputs. Naila Fort has that signature palatial feel, with sunlit courtyards, carved archways, expansive terraces, and magnificent. The interior elegantly balances old and new, with antique furnishings, curated artworks, and charming original details complemented by modern luxuries.

Perched on a hilltop in the scenic countryside, the fort offers sweeping views of the Aravalli Range and seclusion in spades. The four-bedroom home can only be reserved in its entirety, ensuring complete privacy. Oberoi says you can expect “attentive yet unobstructive” service, too, meaning nothing will feel too stuffy.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a traditional Ganesh Vandana ceremony in the fort’s private temple. Then it’s time to plan out the rest of the stay, with curated cultural excursions in Jaipur, lazy days by the huge swimming pool, and everything in between on offer. Dining is also tailored to guests, with Oberoi chefs designing daily menus around those in the fort. The dishes are fittingly inspired by those from royal Rajasthani and Mughal kitchens, as well as other international cuisines.

Naila Fort is the first luxury residence Oberoi has opened, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the group. It has no less than 14 other locations in India, plus many more across the globe.

“Naila Fort represents a thoughtful evolution of how we extend Oberoi hospitality,” Oberoi CEO Vikram Oberoi said in a statement. “It allows us to offer something deeply personal—the space, discretion and freedom of a private home, combined with the service philosophy and exacting standards that define our hotels worldwide.”

Rates start at roughly $13,300 per night, and you can book via the Oberoi website.
