MGP, the Indiana distillery that produces its own brands and is also the source of whiskey for many others, has been struggling over the past year. The most recent data shows that the company saw a nearly 25 percent plunge in sales, as well as a decrease in gross profit by more than 30 percent, in 2025. Still, the distillery has continued to release new whiskeys under its Ross & Squibb division, including its first wheat whiskey under the Remus brand name. And just yesterday, it announced that it was launching a new private barrel program called Remus Distiller’s Vault, which allows consumers and accounts to access master distiller Ian Stirsman’s private collection of Remus bourbon and rye aged seven, nine, or 11 years.
“Distiller’s Vault takes the barrel pick process to a much more personal level than we’ve done before,” said Stirsman in a statement. “It’s a chance for accounts to get a rare behind-the-scenes experience and select some really unique barrels.” Specifically, you can choose from the three age statements mentioned above. There’s 11-year-old bourbon made from a mashbill of 36 percent rye that can be bottled at 115.2 proof (57.6 percent ABV) or 116.8 proof (58.4 percent ABV); 9-year-old bourbon made from a mashbill of 49 percent rye (that’s a lot of rye!) that can be bottled at 115.5 proof (57.75 percent ABV) or 116.7 proof (58.35 percent ABV); and 7-year-old rye straight malted rye made from a mashbill of 100 percent malted rye that can be bottled at 115.2 proof (57.6 percent ABV). The suggested retail price for all of these bottles is $70.
This program is geared toward bourbon groups and accounts like liquor stores and bars, who will be able to select barrels to bottle as single barrel releases (consumers can find these at retail). The Remus Distiller’s Vault selections will be put into special bottles with a red and gold label that will list who the whiskey was selected by. If you’re interested in inquiring about the program, you can contact the brand at this website, and while in-person visits are preferred you might be able to make other arrangements.
As mentioned before, Remus also recently released the second whiskey in its Master Distiller Experimental Series, which was the first straight wheat whiskey for the brand. This whiskey was distilled in 2017, aged in new charred oak, and then finished in a combination of casks—tawny port, white port, Oloroso sherry, and ruby port—and bottled at 113 proof. “There is nothing more exciting to a master distiller than having the space for exploration” said Stirsman. “With Series No. 2, I set out to create something entirely new for Remus by working with our LKSV, 95 percent wheat whiskey mashbill for the first time. It’s a continuation of our commitment to innovation while respecting the deep-rooted heritage of our distillery.”
