Intrepid whiskey drinkers are well-versed in all the myriad ways of finding rare bottles, including perusing auction websites and fostering personal relationships with liquor stores. The key for many whiskey fans, however, is to be first so they can tell all their friends about the spirits they are drinking and, of course, post about it on Instagram. If you count yourself among this crowd, you’re in luck, because Kentucky’s Lux Row Distillers announced the second year of its exclusive membership club called the Front Row community.
Lux Row Distillers is the Bardstown, K.Y., brand owned by Luxco, a company founded in 1958 in St. Louis as a producer and supplier of booze. Nowadays, Luxco counts several different types of booze brands among its assets, including Rebel, Ezra Brooks, and Blood Oath bourbons; Limestone Branch Distillery and its Yellowstone Bourbon; and Mexico’s Destiladora Gonzalez Lux. In 2021, Luxco was acquired by MGP Ingredients, the Indiana distillery that contract distills whiskey for so many other brands and also releases whiskey under its own Ross & Squibb label.
According to Lux Row, the Front Row community membership offers an exclusive chance “to enjoy bottles of [our] rarest whiskeys, early access to special bottle releases, invitations to exclusive events, and opportunities to shape the future of the Front Row community.” Specifically, that will include spending time at the Lux Row headquarters in Bardstown where you’ll be able to chat with master distiller John Rempe, as well as complimentary tour tickets, free tastings, discounts on merchandise, and—best of all—first looks at new releases with bottles directly to your home.
“The Front Row is for those who are passionate about Lux Row’s award-winning Kentucky bourbon and whiskey brands, and want to be part of shaping the future of this pioneering membership community,” Rempe said in a statement. “As the first distillery to offer an exclusive opportunity like this, we’ve explored a lot of ideas and worked with our members to make this a must for even more Kentucky bourbon lovers.”
As far as the bourbon and other whiskeys you’ll get to taste and have first access to, here’s what’s on tap according to the Front Row website. This winter is the distillery-exclusive Lux Row Estate Collection, made from grains grown onsite. In the spring you’ll get a bottle of the new edition of Lux Row’s premiere whiskey, Blood Oath. This spirit is released in different batches, or “Pacts,” as it’s referred to, each a singular blend that will not be repeated. Last year’s release was a blend of 14-year-old and 7-year-old bourbon with rye in the mashbill and 10-year-old wheated bourbon that was finished in añejo tequila barrels. The details about this year’s release have not yet been revealed. In the summer you’ll get bottles of Rebel Extra Aged Carmel Finish Single Barrel and Rebel 10 Year Single Barrel, and in the fall a bottle of Ezra B. 12 Year bourbon will be sent out, another distillery exclusive.
If you’re interested in signing up, go to the Front Row website to find out more. Individual plans cost $1,500 per year, while family plans include a second person for $2,000 per year (you can also pay by quarter for each plan).
