Inside the 96 Luxe New Condos Coming to the Detroit Edition Next Year

The Edition is racing into the heart of Motor City.

The hospitality company is planning to open the Residences at the Detroit Edition, its first-ever residential offering in the Midwest, by next year. Comprising 96 condos, the development will sit atop the Detroit Edition hotel, which itself is found within the Hudson’s Detroit tower. The mixed-use property spans a whopping 1.5 million square feet on the site of the former J. L. Hudson Department Store.

“The Residences at the Detroit Edition delivers a one-of-a-kind residential product to Detroit in the heart of all that our great city has to offer,” says Dan Gilbert, the founder and chairman of Bedrock, the real-estate developer working with the brand on the project. “From sweeping views of the skyline and Detroit River to unparalleled amenities with close proximity to the dynamic retail and restaurant scene at the ground level on Woodward Avenue, the Residences open the door to this landmark development and burgeoning downtown.”

Offering between one and four bedrooms, the residential units were designed by SHoP Architects and feature interiors courtesy of Yabu Pushelberg. While the layouts differ among the homes, the great rooms all sport 10-foot ceilings and walls of windows that frame the Detroit skyline. Rich woods and stone islands complement the dark bronze hardware in the open kitchens, which include top-of-the-line appliances from the likes of Wolf, Cove, and Sub-Zero. Primary bathrooms, meanwhile, are done up in a serene white color scheme, with soaking tubs and rainfall showers for releasing the stress of the day.

The residential amenities include a full aquatic suite with an indoor pool, a sauna, and more.

While the condos serve as private retreats, the development comes with 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities where you can mingle with your neighbors. For rest and relaxation, there’s a fitness and aquatic suite that includes an indoor pool, a hot tub, and both sauna and steam rooms. Kids can monkey around in the children’s playroom while their parents log on in the co-working space. And when the Midwest winter is finally over, everyone can gather on the landscaped terrace, where lounges and summer kitchens abound.

Along with all that the Residences has to offer, homeowners will also have access to the hotel, including restaurants, another pool, and additional spa services. And right outside, the larger Hudson’s development will have office space, retail stores, an event venue, and a cocktail bar from the lauded Union Square Hospitality Group. If you’re interested in buying in, pricing starts around $600,000 for the smallest units. Douglas Elliman Development Marketing is handling all sales.
