Owners talked, and Greenline Yachts listened.
The Slovenian yard, which produces “green” eco-conscious cruisers ranging between 32 and 68 feet, just unveiled a new 42-foot model based on client feedback.
“New models are rare occurrences at Greenline Yachts, because we pride ourselves on the longevity of our designs,” Alessandro Lorenzon, the yard’s global business director and chief experience officer, said in a statement. “We started by collecting feedback from our owners and, when we looked at their experiences, a few things became clear. They wanted more cockpit space for relaxing, higher speeds under power, and a more modern design language.”
Originally, the team planned to replace the existing Greenline 40—one of the most popular models in the range, with over 100 boats sold since 2012—but ultimately decided to create an entirely new fleet member in partnership with Marco Casali of Too Design. The Italian designer previously worked with the yard on the larger Greenline 58.

“With the new Greenline 42, there was a tightrope to walk,” adds Casali. “We wanted to rework the Greenline 40 without giving the sense that everything was new.”
The 42 carries the yard DNA, with the signature S-shaped sheerline, 360-degree glazing, and streamlined roof. It has been given a fresh spin, though. Casali remodelled the cockpit to bring more space and flexibility than ever before. There is now enough real estate for a four-person table on the centreline of the boat, with sofa seating on either side. Casali also incorporated features from bigger models, such as the foredeck lounge and an optional drop-down aft platform.
As with the 40, the 42 offers two cabins: a spacious owner’s cabin forward and a twin/double to port. However, that little bit of extra volume has allowed for a second head, meaning the 42 offers slightly more privacy than its smaller predecessor. The yacht also has a flowing open-plan layout, with the aft doors opening to turn the separate salon and cockpit into one big indoor-outdoor entertaining area. That creates a feeling of more space onboard.

The 42 is brimming with green tech, too. Ten solar panels on the coachroof can deliver up to 4.5kW of energy. Any extra power can be stored in the 22kWh battery bank and used to power the hotel load at anchor. The yacht can run on silent electric power for 48 hours or more.
Like every Greenline, the new 42 can be equipped with either a diesel propulsion system comprising twin 250hp Yanmar engines or a proprietary hybrid setup with 23kW electric motors between the diesel engine and the propeller. The electric motors use the leftover energy produced in diesel mode to recharge the batteries, according to Greenline. That means the batteries will be fully charged when you arrive at your destination, ready for another two days of silent operation.
The 42 is also 3 knots faster than the 40, with a top speed of 25 knots under diesel power. It is also more efficient and seaworthy than the 40.
