Fred Segal’s Daughter Lists Her Revamped L.A. House for $10 Million

Last month, Canada-based apparel chain Aritzia acquired the Fred Segal brand, with plans to revive the fashion retailer’s iconic ivy-covered flagship store on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood into an “experiential destination.” Meanwhile, another equally arresting destination related to the late “Curator of Cool” has popped up for sale in Los Angeles, this one a Toluca Lake home owned by his daughter, Annie Segal.

Segal acquired the 1950s residence in early 2024 for $4.8 million and then gave it a complete overhaul in collaboration with her Asom Home partner, Marieke Ochtman, carrying out a full restoration of the roof, electrical, plumbing, and finishes. Now the stylishly revamped spread is back on the market for a smidge under $10 million, with Jonathan Mogharrabi and Marci Kays of Carolwood Estates sharing the listing.

Completed in the early 1950s, the traditional two-story residence sits beyond gates on a flat parcel spanning nearly three-quarters of an acre. It offers five bedrooms and six bathrooms in roughly 5,000 square feet of stylish interiors with peg-and-groove floors and custom woodwork alongside layered patterns and whimsical wallpaper. There’s also a separate pool house with a guest suite, plus an attached two-car garage.

A circular driveway leads to a walkway flanked by lion statues, with steps heading up to a portico entryway. From there, highlights include a fireside living room with a seated bar and a vintage jukebox, as well as a family room sporting a floor-to-ceiling natural stone fireplace and sliding glass doors opening to an alfresco dining patio. A spacious kitchen has a professional Hallman range and an accompanying breakfast nook, while a funky bonus room is drenched in playful Spoonflower fabric.

Elsewhere is a mirrored exercise room with a sauna, and a richly hued primary suite that has a tiled bath with dual vanities, an oval soaking tub, and a walk-in shower. Outdoors, the park-like grounds have been landscaped by Orca Living, and are spotlighted by a large swimming pool with a spa and a Baja shelf, several sitting areas, a fire pit, and native plantings.

Fred Segal, who died in 2021 at age 87, founded his eponymously named brand in 1961, per Women’s Wear Daily. He went on to pioneer experiential retail and introduced what was known as the “California cool aesthetic,” with sexy looks, fashion-forward denim lines, and collaborations with designers. Not only did he shape L.A.’s style and cultural identity for decades, but his store also appeared on TV shows such as Dawson’s Creek and Beverly Hills 90210. It was also a celebrity hot spot, regularly drawing the likes of Diana Ross, Lenny Kravitz, Paris Hilton, and Kendall Jenner.

At its height, the brand operated nine stores in California along with locations in Switzerland, Taiwan, and Malaysia. In 2024, Fred Segal closed its clothing stores in L.A., which by then had been reduced to two, citing “challenges in the retail industry and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.” With Aritzia, Annie and the rest of the Segal family hope to have found a partner that will “guide the brand to new glory.”
