Ferrari and Amalgam Partner on Four New Miniature Prancing Horses

The Amalgam Collection has unveiled four tiny variants of the same Ferrari supercar model, each just under two feet in length and designed to be identical replicas of the full-size inspiration. The esteemed model builder partnered with the Italian marque on the 1:8 scale models, which are crafted from thousands of specifically engineered parts, just like their drivable counterparts.

The quartet of Prancing Horses comprise two versions of the 296 Speciale berlinetta and a pair of 296 Speciale spiders. And as far as attention to detail, each follow in the footsteps of Amalgam’s miniature Formula 1 replicas and its previous partnerships with Maranello, which include a diminutive 12Cilindri

The work behind the cars is exhaustive, in part to match the work of the engineers and designers that originally created them. Amalgam says that each of these 296 variants required over 3,000 hours of design and development before they were built. The process of building then took more than 300 hours and involves 3-D printing and hand-finishing.

Amalgam uses Ferrari’s own CAD models, which were employed to perfect parts assembled by a team of specialist craftspeople. The cars do not have operating engines or transmissions, but, outwardly, are identical in every way. “Each model has undergone the meticulous scrutiny of Ferrari’s design and engineering teams at Ferrari Centro Stile to ensure absolute fidelity to the real car,” states Amalgam in its press release.

The new cars offer buyers some interesting choices. Just 199 will be made of a 296 Speciale painted Rosso Corsa, complemented by a Nero (deep black) interior. Another 199 examples will be of the 296 Speciale A, which will be painted Rosso Dino—the car’s launch shade of red—and showcases a cockpit finished in Nuovo Nero. The remaining two model cars will be limited to nine examples each. The first is a 296 Speciale painted in Verde Nürburgring with white stripes; the interior displays both Nero and Rosso Dino colors. The second is a 296 Speciale A painted Blu Corsa, with Cuoio and Nero on the inside.

The bespoke cars feature next-level artisanship. Amalgam says it can build a model of a customer’s actual car that matches “every visible element,” of the real deal. That includes the exact paint on the exterior, along with interior materials, brake calipers, functional markings, and personalized inscriptions. Amalgam can even make a replica of your license plate for the finished product. Such a model would probably be a good edition to a home or office, so buyers can show off their wheels without subjecting viewers to a garage. For classics that lack CAD designs, the cars can be scanned to make computer models for reproduction.

“These new editions showcase the depth of craft our team brings to every model, but it is our Tailor Made Service that truly defines the Amalgam experience, creating a perfect, personal replica that reflects the passion and individuality of each owner,” mentioned Sandy Copeman, Amalgam’s founder, in the official statement.

Each of the Ferrari 296 Speciale miniatures are priced at $19,995, while a bespoke Ferrari model that’s an exact replica of your own will start at $27,995. The limited editions are all available to order now except for the Blu Corsa version, which Amalgam says will begin delivery in the next several weeks.
