Drew Barrymore doesn’t tend to do things halfway—so it tracks that what began as a simple country escape quickly turned into a full-scale restoration project. Now, just two years after buying a historic estate in Westchester County, the actress-turned–daytime chat show host is ready to pass it on.
Tucked away on nearly 12 acres in Harrison, about 35 minutes from Manhattan, the circa-1740s home first caught Barrymore’s attention in a way she’s described as almost cosmic. She told The Wall Street Journal she felt a “spiritual calling” to the property, which she initially saw as a more practical alternative to the Hamptons—closer, easier, and better suited to her schedule filming The Drew Barrymore Show.

Practical, however, didn’t mean turnkey. What she thought would be a cosmetic refresh quickly spiraled into a gut renovation, with major systems—plumbing, HVAC, and heating—completely replaced. At one point, Barrymore compared the experience to The Money Pit, deciding it was better to lean into the chaos rather than shy away from it.
Barrymore, who has increasingly channeled her creative energy into design through her lifestyle and home goods brand Beautiful by Drew, took a hands-on approach throughout. She opened up the interiors—most notably the kitchen, which took nearly a year of engineering to rework—while preserving the rambling home’s historic bones.

It’s expansive but not overwhelming—more retreat than showpiece—and that was the point. Barrymore even lived there during the renovation in what she described as “primitive” conditions, turning the process into part of the experience.
Today, the roughly 7,200-square-foot main residence unfolds with an easy, light-filled flow: a dramatic great room with 30-foot ceilings and walls of windows, a series of intimate gathering spaces warmed by fireplaces, and a sprawling primary suite that functions almost more like a private apartment. The grounds lean into a romantic, almost pastoral mood, with wildflower gardens, a freeform heated pool, and both a guest cottage and a finished pool house.

So why sell now? Timing, mostly. By the time the work was complete, her family’s needs had shifted, leaving less room for the kind of weekend escape she originally envisioned.
The home is now on the market for roughly $5 million—just above the $4.4 million she paid in 2024—with Compass agents Kori Sassower and Brian K. Lewis holding the listing.
As for what’s next, Barrymore isn’t exactly slowing down. She continues to refine her long-held apartment on New York‘s Park Avenue, a spacious combination unit she picked up 12 years ago for $8.3 million, and she offloaded her Hamptons hideaway in 2024 for $8.25 million after buying it in 2019.
